Python 2020 4" - can someone take a picture?
I am having a custom holster made for a new (2021 ...or 2020 model) 4" Python.
The Python is still on layaway, but I would like to get the holster started. The maker has asked me to confirm measurements.
Can someone that has a 4" Python do me a big favor and snap a few photos of the gun next to a tape measure?
Specifically, he is looking for measurement from trigger guard to the top of frame and overall length.
Thanks very much in advance!

Ask and Receive :)
Here is a photo of mine in 4".
I really like the feel of the Python; some folks prefer the older ones and I have had those too, but I really like this new model.
*Edit: It should be noted that I am terrible at taking pictures; my wife is the artistic one when it comes to this.

The tape measure angle appears off on the camera but it is 4" to the frame and an addition 1/4" as mentioned above. Hope this helps.
Looks awkward in the photo, if someone has a ruler that would work better, but the measurements are correct. 4" from frame and 1/4" into frame.

I am excited to finally have one as a shooter!
Thank you very much for snapping the photo.
If possible, could you or anyone else post a photo with a ruler next to it?
I am looking for the measurement from trigger guard to top and overall length.
I heard the newer Pythons have a thicker top strap. And pretty sure the barrel went to 4.25" for Canada. Not sure about the rest of the frame.
Thank you!

I'll wait to see if someone else has a ruler...if not then I'll follow up. It's awkward trying to hold the line tight while snapping a photo.

FWIW, I have a new 4” Python and all my 4” 686/Python holsters fit perfectly. To be on the safe side your holster maker could add 1/4”.
Here’s a video where they measure and compare old vs. new.

I've got pictures, but none with a ruler alongside. I don't think there is much if any difference in the physical size of the old and the new except for the 1/4" of barrel. The slightly thicker topstrap is very slight and I doubt it would make any difference.
My wife's
Mine
I would think any holster for a L-frame S&W would work as someone else said. The ones I have for a K-frame are a little too tight. I only carry them in a range bag, so I've never bothered with a holster.

^^^^ That's a good price, Caj. I paid $ 1,700.00 for mine and have seen them from $1,650 - $2,000 in shops and online.

If I recall correctly my local gun shop is selling them for that price. I think I’ll go down and handle one even though I don’t need any more 357 revolver

I had been watching the big auction site for a while and prices were in the $1800-$2200+ range.
In the last 3 weeks or so, Colt must have sent out quite a few shipments to dealers, because I began seeing listings with 3, 6 or even 10+ available from certain sellers ...and lower prices.
Very recently, the going prices have gone back to $1500-$1700 at many shops.
That's just my experience so far online.

That's ballpark. I paid $1500 (MSRP) for the two I bought last year, and $1700 for the one my wife wanted earlier this year.
I saw Sportsman's Warehouse had them listed for $1500 a couple of days ago, but they're sold out as best I can tell. If you're interested it's a good idea to put your name on a notification list or two. I did that at Sportsman's Warehouse and got a notification in a couple of weeks.

I bought mine in June this year. Price was $1574.99.
It has a 6" barrel and the action is nice, especially the double action trigger pull. However, it's not better than any of my model 27s, especially in single action.
My opinion, YMMV.

I recently paid $1525 OTD, so before taxes and fees it was less than the $1499 MSRP. In shops I've seen em running between $14XX and $2000 and more than that online.

After all the posts to your question, I thought I would just give you an answer instead of telling you where I found mine and how much I paid!

Ha! It was a fun topic diversion.
Now that I see it in numbers, I am feeling a little inadequate. Might need to get a 6" too
Thank you very much for taking the time to measure!

Had my hands on a new six inch Python today. A real popular shop in Omaha, they had $1899 on either the 4 or 6". I've been contemplating one, but that price was just too high; not sure what "right " price is , but I know by the time I paid tax and transfer fees ( I live in Iowa) it would be well over 2 Gs. And I do know that is not my "right " price.

One of the small shops in town got a 4” Python and 6” Anaconda in. They were the only one he’d received. When I walked I a customer was buying the Anaconda and I asked the price on the Python. He said $1420 so I jumped on it. He sold the Anaconda for the same price.
I live not far from Buds Guns and Smoky Mountain Guns and Ammo. Buds had some but wanted close to $2000. No thanks, I’m patient and it pad off. I’m reluctant to pay retail and absolutely refuse to pay over retail.

There are definitely a lot more out in the wild than a few months ago. This is driving competition up and prices down for the moment. Not sure if we’ll keep seeing them in these plentiful quantities.
Found mine online at a great out of state shop for $1499 (still sounds better than $1500) and that was the magic price for me. I knew it was never in a showcase and my mouse went right to the “buy it now” button for some strange reason.
Also found them for $1399 as Colt factory BLEMs. Perfect shooters.
Just seemed like the right time to pick one up. Enjoy!

I’ll likely buy another in 6” if I find a new one in the $13xx range. No rush.

My 4.25 inch Python was 1499.00 +tax from Sportsman's Warehouse. My 6 inch came from another shop and was 1420.00 +tax.I bought my 6 and 8 inch Anacondas from my local guy for 1499.00 each.I would not pay a premium over manufacturer's suggested retail, they are out there you just have to do a little looking.

Sportsman's Warehouse seems to be holding the line on pricing. Their listed price is the same as Colt's MSRP.
I just purchased one from SW in Fairfield, CA for $1,499, that bumped up to $1,625 with tax, and the DROS fee added another $37 for $1,662 out the door. While not at all cheap, the price isn't out of line at all compared to other desireable guns. S&W new classics push $1,000, and the X-frames, and other special models bump right up there with the Python! My FN FiveSevens were virtually the same price as the new Python, and it's not hard at all to find Kimber and Springfield Armory, Colt, and other named 1911's for the same money and lots more than the new Python - just to keep it in perspective.
I happen to own an original 4" Python with royal blue finish and the instant I began handling the new version I was blown away by how much BETTER it is than the original! The DA pull is smooth and light, and the SA let-off glass-rod. Fitment is absolutely on par with pre-2005 models, and the new walnut stocks are light-years better to what came before! The new grip is wider at the top and narrower at the bottom and feel up to the task of handling magnum loads. The old Python stocks were too narrow up top, yet replacing them with something intended for magnum shooting destroyed the "look" of the gun.
The new transfer bar system is mechanically invisible...you don't notice it at all! Also, the new trigger is wider, but not so wide as to inhibit DA pulls.
Colt has always had the better operating system - cylinder rotates clockwise with the hand coming up on the left to act as a block to the cylinder becoming unlatched under recoil as was possible with the old S&Ws firing hot loads. Also, Colt's cylinder latch pulls to the rear and is thus forced forward, "into" the cylinder locking recess during recoil - exactly the opposite of S&W who solved their cylinder lock-in issued with longer plungers and stiffer springs, whereas Colt's design solved it on day one.
The new Python DA trigger is better than that on my New Classic M25 but only just...with SA being identical. The new Python DA pull is superior to my M 69 which is an L-frame size model and simply lacks the lightness, of the larger N-frame model (that I own).
ALL of these new model revolvers benefit from improved internal lockwork thanks to CAD design and so are less prone to being malfunctioned by the user short-stroking the trigger under stress.
