Not sure how long they’ve been in business but my UNeducated guess is from the 60s or 70s. I’ve got a few of those boxes too.
And somebody today may let you quadruple your money!

With stupid wait times for new Tylers folks are willing to fork out stupid money for older ones that are a few days away in the mail. If I remember right I got $25 for an empty Tyler box. Obviously the LGS isn't a member of this forum or checks Ebay if they sold it to you for $10.

If I am remembering correctly the earlier boxes had a colored label on top of the box.
Melvin Tyler ,who started the company ,was an Oklahoma City Police Officer. He passed away in 2021.
His Father was
also in law enforcement, serving with both the Sheriff's Dept and the Police Dept. in
OK city before becoming one of the first Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation Agents.

Bought the box and grip to sit on a shelf in my gun rooms.

Someone in the Sale / Trade classifieds has been looking for a #8 Tyler. As I recall he has a K-Frame one and the box like that to trade. That was a while back though.
That is a nice find; I would have grabbed it too.

The earlier ones have the Tyler info on the side of the T-grip like on the box. I have seen newer ones (without the info), placed in the older box to garner more money. Some S&W ones can bring $100 plus on eBay.

I got one of the new Tyler T grips after months of waiting, so long in fact I forgot I'd ordered it. I was disappointed; it was rough finished and didn't have "Tyler T-Grip" on the side of the thing. I've got an original as well, and there is no comparison with the new ones.

Unfortunately, I think it has been quite a while since the Tyler info was on the side. That is one of the reasons they command such a high price.
