Another LGS Find: High Standard Sentenial .357. Really a Dan Wesson? Help.
Was browsing the LGS that specializes in used guns (my other store only does new). Saw a High Standard .357 Sentenial in the case for $$459. Looks in decent shape but I didn't inspect it.
Got home and began thinking about another .357 and did a bit of research on this -- seems the Mark II and Mark III were designed by Dan Wesson and made by High Standard. Or so some of the interweb lore says.
Anyone know about these guns. (Don't have serial or much detail just that I'd like another .357 and this seems like one to check into.
If anyone has knowledge or experience I'd appreciate hearing from you here, as well as thoughts on price.

It definitely is a re-badged Dan Wesson. I've seen two here locally in the past few years. Both were ridden hard, and put away wet. Can't help much more than that.

Fixed sight, adjustable, Pork Chop barrel?
I forget the finer points such as whether barrels on the HS are removable but yes, the HS is made by DW.

They are Dan Wessons, and will perform like a Wesson. I think the price might be a little high but, right now anyway, prices are still high on everything.
A local shop here has one with a 4" barrel that they have priced at $299 but it looks like someone painted it with Krylon and the same brush they used to paint the fence. Bubba strikes again.
See if they'll come down on the price, if you like Dan Wessons, it would be a good shooter.

My first revolver was a High Standard and it was first rate and very accurate. They were made by Wesson and marks HS. Mine was a 6 inch with a removable barrel.

They were made by Dan Wesson and all the ones that I have seen have the "pork chop" style barrel shroud. The Sentinel Mk II was the fixed sight version, the Mk III had adjustable sights.

Back in the day they tried to get a piece of the police market and offered them with fixed barrels. The big complaint I remember about them was the location of the cylinder release. If I remember right it was in front of the cylinder and everyone was accustomed to S&W, Colt and Ruger being behind the cylinder. I also remember that they shot very well.

Went back to the store and it is a Mark II (no rear sight) and marked as such. Not very worn, no turn line, comes with the barrel disassembly tool but has rubber Pachmayr grips (which are good for shooting, but not as handsome).
I had them put a PPQ in .40 aside for me last week, and changed my mind. Gonna be the .357 and I'll be looking for wood grips and as it is a "pork chop" version a 2" barrel to make it a snub.
Anyone else have experience with these, please chime in. It's gonna be a week before the guy who does their trades (I have a model 59 that's gathering dust in the safe) gets back from holiday.

DW marketed a variety of "combat grips" that should fit the HS. Most have a great feel to them. Smaller around the base than the top, matches the hand pretty well.

Any of the DW small frame stocks will fit. Small frame stocks can be identified by the hole into which the revolver's main spring/grip tang fits. Small frame (.22-357 Magnum) will be square. Large frame (357 Maximum-445 Super Mag) will be round. I've recently seen High Standard Sentinel II/III stocks on eBay and Numrich Gun Parts Corp has also had them.

Pretty sure DW made the short lived HS Crusader too.
