Default The Other Half. Colt 1902 military

Below is the other half of my most recent acquisitions, a Colt Military Model of 1902. As far as I can tell produced in 1904. Still has the "Browning's Patent" on the slide. Bore is grundgy but you can still see the rifling so I will take it out and shoot it tomorrow. Had to clean it and "work" it about 150 times to get the barrel to drop out of battery reliably, but other than that it seems to be working OK as best as I can tell without actually firing it. This one cost me $900, which is $100 less than the last three I have seen so I am not going to complain, assuming it actually shoots.

That is very cool. Must be a pretty rare pistol. Hope it shoots for you. Looks like after they designed it they needed some grips on it and used what they had available.

Don't know if I would call them "rare." They made a total of about 25,000 of them, about 2/3 military and about 1/3 not. Sales stopped in about 1928, with the last couple of thousand assembled from parts on hand. They are available in the #1k range for one in decent shooting condition.

Maybe 30 years ago I bought one which had been refinished (not too bad a job) and with replacement grips for around $300 as I remember. I loaded some very light lead bullet .38 ACP to use in it. I didn't keep it very long, and traded it off for something else. I wish now that I had kept it just for its historical significance.
