Given how many of them I own I would say the Colt Government Model is my favorite non S&W handgun. I’ve got a bunch of them in .38 Super and .45ACP, I generally have one with me every time I visit the range.
My other choice would be the SP-101. I’ve been carrying one for over 15 years, and the SP-101 was my Dad’s favorite gun. I’ve got several of them, including Dad’s gun.

What is your Favorite non-S&W Handgun?
First off, a big thanks to JJEH who responded to my frustrated inquiry/rant in the Forum Office on how to attach photos.
Herewith, if not my favorite non-S&W handgun, certainly a contender. It is my PPC gun, built up on a Ruger Police Service Six in 1977.
As much as I like this revolver, I actually backed into it. When I finally decided I wanted a dedicated PPC competition revolver, I, like most shooters, wanted it built up on a S&W K frame, stainless steel, .357 cal. But there were none to be had. In fact no stainless K frames at all. I knew nothing of the Ruger DA revolvers except that they were K frame sized and were reputed (as were all things Ruger) to be extremely strong. I called my gunsmith and asked him if he could build the gun on a Ruger, and he said he could.
The completed revolver itself was fine. The action not so much. He lightened the action by cutting the coil main spring. When he finished the gun and tested it in his Ransom rest, he only fired it SA. In DA it would constantly misfire.
Time for me to take the bull by the horns. I started doing my homework. I first found out that a 10/22 recoil spring would work as the main spring if one narrowed the strut. Turns out it worked perfectly. Around this time after market trigger return springs hit the market, so I replaced the stock very heavy trigger return spring. Now the DA pull was very light, but consistent. It felt about the same weight as my colleagues' K frame PPC guns, albeit slightly different with the coil vs leaf spring. I had no problem adapting. Later on I learned that legendary gunsmith Jim Clark had developed an adjustable mainspring for these Rugers, so I went with the Clark. That is how it sits today.
Not too long after I had everything dialed in, another teammate, a Governor's 20 member, and I were out at the range practicing. My bride was there, along with our German Shepherd, who would never pass up a range trip. My teammate's K frame based revolver quit on him because one of the frame mounted internal pins broke. He remarked that if this had been in a match, he would be done, because he did not have a back-up. As we were driving home, my bride, always my greatest supporter, said that she would not want me to have to quit a match under such circumstances, so I should get a back-up.
Since I wanted identical feel, and since my Ruger was performing to my expectations, I had my back-up built on another Ruger. This time, since we had both learned, my gunsmith as part of the action element of the build, put in a light trigger return spring and the Clark adjustable mainspring. If anything, the completed action was even smoother than on my original revolver.
I started bringing my back-up with me to the matches, in my Pachmayr gun box that my bride had also bought me. But I gave up on that because my primary never failed on me. The back-up gun, except for test firing by the gunsmith and sighting in by me, never saw another round downrange. So I am in the unusual position of now still having a new circa 1979 PPC revolver.
My primary PPC revolver, the one pictured, like me, is retired. Unlike me though, that revolver can chew out the X ring at 50 yards. I've done a little maintenance over the later years, so it carries up perfectly and locks up completely tight on all six chambers.
The final score for that revolver: The highest scores I ever shot. The most dust collectors I ever won. The most rounds I ever fired through any firearm I have ever owned. Too many fun memories to even count.
Pretty strong credentials to be held as a favorite.

It would definitely be a Ruger single action but I’ve got quite a bit to choose from including several 357 maximum Blackhawks.
I like this one a lot though. 6.5 454 super blackhawk bisley

A .454 Redhawk?! That's custom, right? As far as I know, Ruger has never made a Redhawk chambered in .454 Casull, only the Super Redhawk.

Lately it has been the TC Contender and it's big brother, the Encore. The
herd has grown to over 20 set ups from 22 long rifle to 45-70.

Same here... not only was a Series '70 GC my first auto loader almost 4 decades ago, it was also my first purchase using my newly obtained dealer FFL... back in 1983, when a person could get a dealer FFL without much fanfare/red tape.
I bought it from Buckeye Sports Supply for $411 shipped.
It's seen a lot of water under the bridge since then, but it never fails to get the same reaction as the first time I laid eyes on it.

You're right. A Ruger Redhawk with a Super Redhawk 454 cylinder, Bowan rear sight, and midnight blue Cerakote.

I'm going to join the other 1911 folks here with my Mike Curtis built pre 70 series. It started life with me as a bullseye gun in the early 90's and when I retired from bullseye it was put back into a more convenient form. It is still a sewing machine 1911 that likes to make one hole. 50 ft. 2 hand hold, I shake too much for one.

My favorite non-S&W handgun is my tungsten gray Walther PPQ.
What can I say? It fits my hand well, looks good, and is a fine shooter.

I'm not a collector. I buy my guns for pragmatic reasons. Either I enjoy shooting them, and/or they serve some practical purpose. My favorite non-S&W is my primary home defense handgun, my FN FNX-45 Tactical. It is very accurate, relentlessly reliable, fun to shoot, and best of all, it carries 16 rounds of .45 acp.

Being a revolver guy , my favorite " non smith " is my OM Colt Trooper , 4" barrel in 357 magnum , followed closely by my Colt Police Positive Special , 4" barrel chambered in 38 special . I just got a Ruger Security Six , stainless , 4" barrel that came from an estate sale , the owner died , for $395 . Original grips that look brand new . Be interesting to see how it compares to my love for my Colts . Regards Paul

I only own 2 non-S&Ws right now. This Walther PSS Mod2 is easily my favorite. Very similar in size and feel to the Shield, it conceals very nicely. I also shoot it surprisingly well.

Count me as another fan of the 1911. While the first gun I shot was my late dad’s S&W .38spl I learned to shoot on a 1911, taught by his good friend a mere 53 years ago.
I’ve owned many mid to high end over the years and it’s my absolute favorite non-S&W handgun.

I really like this Colt Officers Model .32 revolver for several reasons. It was obviously set up for target shooting by someone who knew what they were doing-Roper front sight and (probable) rear sight, Sanderson grips and a target hammer. It shoots like a dream and my friends enjoy shooting it, even the big bore aficionado. I’m typically a plinker, not a target shooter but I do like to hit what I’m aiming at and I usually can with this fine old revolver.
The Heiser shoulder holster is maker etched “OM .32” on the back so they go together after arriving separately.
Regards,

My trusty old BHP I carried for over 40 years, bought new in 1968, now retired. I also like my old Ruger Mark 1 and my recently acquired used Single six which is the last gun my wife bought for me before she recently passed. It will be treasured as my #1 forever.

I can't honestly say my 19-4/4"bbl is even ONE of my favorites, as that distinction would go to my Dad's old '68 Python. My favorite is my TRP Op/45acp, hands down the ultimate, handheld, range toy!

Tough choice but probably this Colt SAA. Not really a practical pistol but it takes me to a nostalgic, happy place when I handle it. It has a nice crisp and smooth SAA action. And, yes, I do shoot it occasionally.

GLOCKS : any model, any caliber. Simple manual of arms and depenable.
I lean toward the ones that the caliber starts with a "4".

.........I have never been more than arms reach or at worst a few feet away from a Browning Hi Power and don't plan to be as long as I am able.

My Hi Power is my favorite shooter but the history behind this one makes it my favorite possession. Knowing that it was carried by a LT Colonel while liberating a Nazi death camp gives me chills when I hold it.

I'm not surprised to see so many references to the classic Hi-Power on here.
I also love the Hi-Power but I'm going to have to say a favorite I always turn to is a CZ 75 9mm. I like the decocker versions alot. Full sized, compact, subcompact, like a 2075, all are good.
Here's my 85B that's my current favorite,

Without a doubt, my 4.2", Colt Python. Best shooting revolver I've ever fired.

If it weren't for the fact that my PPK/S was manufactured by Smith & Wesson under license, then it most likely would have been my choice. Sure, it's not rare or fancy like my H&K USP45 Elite, but it's still just about my favorite pistol.

Please, for the love of John Moses Browning, clean the surface rust out of those rollmarks! It drives me crazy whenever I see surface rust on a classic G.I. M1911. I know some folks say that it adds character, but all I see is neglect. Clean that old warhorse up and give her a proper coat of lube, she deserves it.

Not my gun of course, but I don't think it's rust you're seeing on that Ithaca. If looks more like leftover highlighting from previous effort to color the rollmarks.
See my attached pic below. Ist is a "before" shot where previous owner had colored slide markings on my Colt, 2nd is "after" removing that coloration.
Just my $.02, but I'm not seeing rust on his 1911.
