Ruger Redhawk
Been looking to get another one, and maybe found it but have a question.
Looking at a 5.5" model, says '85 vintage, all of the ones I see have the "takedown" lever ( I put it in quotations because Im not positive of what its called) the obling-ish part that is behind the grip near the tip. All of the ones I see have this part on the right side of the frame except this one I see, its on the left side.
Anyone care to help and explain why? Did the move it to the right side at some point? Why?

Happened to have my early 1980's Redhawk sitting here. Mine is on the right. Mine is the 7.5 inch version with the factory scope mounts.
Just a thought - did you look at the gun in person, or in a photo? Photo may have been reversed, like those S&W's you see with the thumb latch on the right side.....

The early 5.5” Redhawk hammer pins were indeed on the left side. I have one from ‘83 that way. Never have heard a reason as the 7.5” guns all were on the right. The guns like the OP mentioned, while not extremely rare, are considered “scarce”. (So I’ve been told).
It is believed that they went back to the right side because grips with speedloader cut outs don’t hold the pin in place. Not an issue with factory stocks. Mine has never come out regardless what grips I’ve used.
Mine has fired thousands of trouble free rounds in 39 years.

Here's what it should look like .... at least the right side. No idea what a take-down thingy is you reference but .... the "plunger" you use to open the cylinder is on the left side. Hope that helps.

Hitman, beautiful Redhawk. I prefer the blued models over the SS but ones like yours, at least in those pictures, are hard to come by. Ive looked. SS is easier to maintain but I still prefer blued.
Yes, I know that the cylinder release is on the left side, not what Im referring to at all.
