Anschutz .22 single shot my dad brought back from Germany after WW2.
Simple bolt action single shot marked JGA on the front ring and Original Carbiner (sp) on the side of the bbl. Pre ww2 proofs. It uses that simple extractor/ejector 1 piece part that flips the casing from the rifle.
Tiny sights that I used to be able to see very well. Those days are over.
I used to hunt and plink with it as a youngster.
Still have the rifle and take it out to the range once in a while.
The first 22 rifle I bought for myself was a Rem Nylon 66.
A toss up betw that and the Ruger 10-22.
I never came to like the Remington very much.,,,and never did get a Ruger.
Plenty of others over a life time though.

The first gun I used was my dad's 1890 Winchester pump take down in .22 short. Shot my first woodchuck with it. It was the only gun my dad ever had that I knew of, and I still have it.
The first .22 I ever bought was a Ruger single six lightweight with 4 - 5/8" barrel. It had a polished Aluminum alloy frame with blued steel cylinder and barrel. I didn't care for the pinto look and traded it for a S&W 2" model 34 kit gun. I read recently that the lightweight single sixes are valued collector guns. Oh well.

My brother and I grew up shooting my dads Winchester 67. My first 22 was a Ruger 10-22 that I got for Christmas in 1973. I saved up and bought my first handgun, a H&R 929, in 1977. Still have both of them.

My first .22, that I received on my 15th birthday, was an Ithaca Model 49, a single shot Martini action that looked like a lever action. I was also given my granddaddy's rabbit gun that day, a Stevens .22/.410 O/U.
Later that year I received a .58 Zouave reproduction muzzleloader and a 28 gauge muzzleloading single shot shotgun.

I don't really know what the first 22 I shot was. There were various and sundray 22's all over the neighborhood that I used at one time or another.
The first one I ever bought for myself was a Marlin 39A.
Since then I've owned more than a dozen, both rifles and handguns. They used to come and go. Lately not so much.
I've got a couple of Rugers now, a Wally-World 10/22, and a 50th anniversary Single-Six, and a Heritage Rough Rider, and a S&W 15-22. I've never fired either of those last two.

All this .22 talk makes me sorry I did not hold onto that Remington 581 I bought for cheap money back around 73-74. 5 shot clip with nice bluing and walnut. Nothing special but still some quality

Remington 552 BDL in the mid 70's, put it in lay-a-way and took 6 months to pay it off. Sadly, that one was traded for a six-shooter but I've picked up 5 various 552/572 replacements for it since that time. there were quite a few minor variations in stocks, finishes, sights, and barrel lengths produced over the years.

First rifle: Remington 512 single shot. It was the only firearm on the farm.
Pa let me shoot it with .22 shorts off the back porch at tin cans on a fence post. (He explained I was shooting down hill into the dirt so it was safe.) I was later allowed to hunt squirrel with that rifle.
20 years later I shortened the stock when my boys were small. I'm still on the farm and so is the rifle. In a year or 2 my granddaughter will be shooting it.
First handgun: Early Ruger .22 single six without the drop safety or .22 mag cylinder. Our Explorer Scout Advisor went over basic safety and let us each shoot 6 rounds. I was HOOKED! He started me on the path.
30 years later He and I were shooting sporting clays. He said "I'm going to sell every gun I own and buy a Smith .38 and a better shotgun." Long story short: Now I own that old Ruger. I seldom shoot it, but often handle it, wipe it down for no reason and remember a summer day when a guy took the time to introduce other peoples kids to the shooting sports.

The first 22 I had unlimited use of was a Winchester M1890 gallery gun in 22 short. When we went north for a weekend I grabbed this and a box of shells and was on the hunt for gophers and chipmunks. A treat was a trip to the dump where I could shoot glass jars and bottles with the possibility of a stray rat.
The first one I actually bought was a Remington M572 pump. My parents weren't hunters or shooters but they had friends that would take me under their wing. I remember wanting a Nylon 66 in the worst way back when they first came out. Mr. McCready a friend of my parents who took me gun shopping frowned on the plastic stock. "a gun should be wood and metal" he'd say. "The pump is a better and safer gun because you know when it's loaded because you chambered the round" . I have never regretted buying the Remington and when it came time for my little brother to get his first gun he also got a Remington 572 pump.
I still have all three of those rifles and believe a gun should be wood and metal.

My first gun (that was mine) was a Remington 552c Speedmaster. My dad bought it for me when I was 13 or 14.........still have it, but haven't fired it in years.

My first .22 was a Ruger Standard given me by my dad in '71 for graduation. It was stolen 9 years ago.
My next was a 1973 Glenfield Model 60 (also given me by my dad) which I still have. It is still a solid shooter.

My first 22 was a Marlin 39A given to me by my dad in 1984. I was 10 and still have it. I have so many fond memories of that rifle growing up in South Louisiana hunting alligators, rabbits and squirrel. It also earned me $5 dollars for each Nutria when they were being sold for the pelts.

The first .22 I ever owned was a Remington 512 Sportmaster that my father bought and completely refinished for me. A few years earlier he had done the same for my older brother with a 511 Scoremaster. Both guns are in the safe.
