Default Another range trip, including the SA-35

Took several more guns out today for my Black Friday range trip.

Back just before the pandemic started I bought a 9mm AR pistol. What with the lock down and some other things I did not get around to shooting it until today. Made by New Frontier Armory, it is a Glock pattern version. I took three different kinds of Glock mags with me. Korean G17 mags, Magpul 21rd and one Korean 33rd. It ran great with no ignition/extraction issues. Only glitch was it failed to lock the bolt back on the Magpul 21rd. The SIG Romeo MSR red dot I am using for sights was pretty much dead on and a little low at 15yd and 25yd. I expect it was sighted in for 50yd at the factory. Bottom target was the 17rd and the first 17 through the gun at 15yd. Left target was the 33rd, also at 15 yd. Right target was rapid fire at with the Magpul 21rd at 25yd. This gun was way too much fun to shoot and makes it easy to go through a bunch of ammo. I stopped after those three mags to save ammo and shoot something else.

ETA: I was gripping the AR up near the end of the handguard and had no issues with heat at all after those 71 quick rounds.

Next was the new SA-35. There is something about a full size steel frame 9mm that is just right. It fed both 115gr and 147gr ball with no issues. The only problem I can see with it is the lower edges and back corners of the little "beavertail" are quite sharp. I am going to stone them down to a slight round and cold blue. Really notice it when you are releasing the safety. Target is the first 13rd through it at 7yd. If it weren't for my flyers, that group would have been quite nice. Trigger on mine weighs in at 6lb even. A little heavier than I prefer by about a pound but it is a very good SA trigger.

Turned to one of the Beretta 81's I got from AIM Surplus a while back. A couple magazines of rapid fire at 7yd. Shooting .32 ACP through a bigger gun with hand filling grips will put a smile on your face.

AIM Surplus Model 64 next. First pic is a SA group at 7yd. Second is a DA group. Always seems to be a flyer, don't you know. Bad flyer on the DA group was second shot in. This M64 prefers a very slow roll in to the trigger stroke. Once I started doing that the group settled in nicely. May need to do some polishing and see if I can smooth the trigger pull.

Moved on to a mouse gun that I had not shot yet. Picked up a Astra Cub in .22 Short before the pandemic started. Decided I needed to try it. Considering the minuscule size of the gun and sights, I was pleasantly surprised by a 5yd group. Was aiming between the 7 and 8 ring. What is it with me and the flyers?

Last one today was my latest fun gun, the Ruger LCP II .22LR

Still impressed with the accuracy out of this little pug. My best group of the day was again with the Aguila lead match, although the CCI Minimags are very close in group size. Not as bad in the flyer department with this one.

Thought of the day: Bring LOTS of ammo if you ever get one of the 9mm AR's. Whether it be a pistol or carbine version. More fun than a barrel of monkeys, and I had one of those when I was a kid.
