Very nice! It looks all correct to me. I understand your disappointment in not being able to buy it, but at least you got to see it.

WOW!! Just WOW!!!

Keep trying. I had a similar situation with a local dealer quite awhile back. It took me three years until one day he sold me the gun, a 7 1/2” Flat Top Ruger Blackhawk 44 Mag.

Wow! That looks like it might be a survivor, as in survived the past 104 years with its original parts intact. The finish looks legitimate too!

I wonder how that gun made its way to Switzerland and where it has been hiding all these years.

Default Thats a beauty

I have a 1918. The 1918 guns were rather hastily made and are actually considered among the lowest quality Colts. I dont care!

Clssic12 can't blame dealer for wanting to keep that 1911 a true collector. Did he have any info re how it ended up in Switzerland? WW1 German capture?

It clearly says "United States Property" on it. Please let me know if you need an address to send it back to.

No idea, LGS got it from an estate of a deceased collector

Oh, I have one too. These "brushed finished" 1911s are fantastic.

BTW, mine is marked "U.S. PROPERTY" also. Where should I send it?

Son of a NUTCRACKER! Those are nice!!

I have piece of one. I have a mix and match 1911 and the frame is from a 1917 model, grips too. The rest is all much newer. It works just like it should and I am grateful even to have a piece of one.

Back in the '70a, a LGS had a .45 Colt Government Model, serial number C88, from 1912. As a poor college student, of course I couldn't afford it.

Fast forward 20 some years. I was at a Birmingham gun show and I saw C88 lying on a table. I looked at it & the owner said that it had been his father's .45, but it had been sold many years before. The owner was able to find it for sale in the late 1980s and had bought it.

I then told him that C88 had sat in a gun shop in Auburn, Alabama for at least 5 years in the '70s. He thanked me for filling in part of it's missing history.
