Pearl handled Colt SAA .44 Special and home made holster
This is a 1982 Colt .44 Special I traded a Winchester 1895 and some $ for last year. It came with box and papers. I think it looks pretty snazzy with these pearls on it. About fifteen years ago I took in a couple years worth of beer cans and got eighty bucks. I then went to the gun shop and bought these grips for $95. They sat there for a couple years but no one bought them 'cause the escutcheon screw was blown out, but I fixed that well enough.
The holster was right out of the Tandy book over twenty years ago but I made up my own carving/stamping pattern.

Looks GREAT! My favorite gun in my favorite caliber. Really nice leather work too. My 71/2” 44 Special wears walnut that I made. Mine is from 1980.

My gun was from the period (1982-83) where fit and finish was sometimes horrible, but it was just fine, though case colors rather dark. Your slightly earlier gun was a consistently better era, IMO. I recently found a pair of 1980s Colt/Winchester Commemorative grips and put them on my blue worn 1958 .44. They only have a screw hole on the right side, the left is blank. This was a rare time when being left handed helped. Because the screw went in the right side, right handers ignored it and they were onlt $35. Post your gun if you have a chance. I'd like to see your grips.

Looks like you’re doing some very nice fitting on those grips……no way they fit like that without some help.

Great looking gun and rig. Thanks for sharing. A 7 1/2” barreled SAA is on my list.

Don’t know why I thought it was a 1980. It’s a late 1978 gun.

1978 is even better. Those grips are excellent. And that holster is so perfectly worn in it looks straight out of the 1880s.

Yeah, and the good part is, so is my son. So he’ll actually have use for all these lefty holsters I have piled up. Including three Ojala’s.

Thanks Wyatt. The rig was built a long time ago by Circle Bar T when Bart Ballew owned the business. Has a matching left hand holster

Actually, I lucked out on the pearl grips because they fit a couple guns perfect as is. The wood grips look perfect in the picture but are very slightly under size along the back strap. I just oiled and darkened them a little.
