Default Walther P22 S&W produced?

I could not find this one in the Standard Catalogue. I have a Walther P22 that I traded a Smith and Wesson 22A for. The Smith was a truly awful specimen. I was never able to fire a 5 round magazine without some variety of FTF.

I am very happy with the Walther and noted that it has a Smith and Wesson marking on the slide. I was aware S&W made some Walther 9 mm pistols but did not know they made 22LR also

I have a 1000 rounds or so through the P22. Runs flawlessly on mini mags. About 0.5% failure to feed on Eley standard velocity. The plastic rear sight works but is kind of trashy.

Based on a sample of one, I bought a new P22 twenty or so years ago. Perhaps the most inaccurate handgun I've ever purchased and it fed no ammo reliably, but a trip back to the factory pretty much remedied the latter problem.

As for the poor accuracy, the S&W rep said "these aren't target pistols". I can vouch for that.

I have one, but I would have to check and see what exactly it is.
Full sized M and P 22 I think, it says Walther on it if I remember right.
It seems to work ok, the sights are adjustable, and it shot slightly to one side when I got it. I corrected that, and it seems ok now.
Probably shot 500 or so rounds through it, and would rather shoot my Ruger Mk2.

The variation in reported performance is the reason I asked about the possibility of S&W manufacture. My P22 runs like a miniature version of the 645. It is certainly NOT Model 41 accuracy, but is not bad and goes off when you pull the trigger. My S&W 22A did not

You got me curious, so I looked at my older specimen. It too is marked S&W, along with Made In Germany. I wonder is these slides are similar to the ones S&W used on its full size M&P .22's?

For what it's worth, this is my second Walther P-22, and both have been reliable, and very decently accurate. Light weight, and a great jacket pocket gun in the woods.

The actual Walther P22 was/is definitely made in Germany. Check the proof marks. S&W just marketed the guns here as far as I know.

There is some debate whether the guns come from the Walther mothership at Ulm or from the Umarex plant in Arnsberg, or both at different times. Umarex bought Walther a while back; now both Walther and Umarex are part of the same corporate entity, called PW Group.

PS: Looking at Larry‘s photo, those are Köln proofhouse markings, so produced at Arnsberg.

I believe that this P22 was manufactured by Walther and imported by S&W. I think this was the case for some PPKs also.

I had one about 15 years ago. I got it to mount a silencer on. It was "plinking" accurate, not very for a .22 LR pistol. You could get a longer barrel extension and possibly a new slid, I can't remember. I don't know where it was made or by whom, but I wouldn't buy another. It digested anything I fed it, so reliable: yes. accurate: not very.

I remember the Walther P22 as the last gun that a friend bought before he was diagnosed with Leukemia. He had left it with me as he had found it on a plane trip to Houston and let me shoot it. We got to take it to the range before he stopped shooting. Nice little pistol. not remarkable, but a decent plinker.
