Great Western Find
Stumbled into my LGS to accept a transfer, and seen this in his case. Always kinda wanted one of these just because of the interesting history of this firm and it's Los Angeles links to my past. So it came home with me.
I live near Jerome now and figure it may have been a prop gun from one of the pistoleros that still walk those streets...

I had a GW .45 Colt one time. Mine was a 5 1/2" blue with plastic stag grips. Got it from a friend who owned a pawn shop for his cost-$70. This was back in the '90s.
Looks like yours has real stag. Good find!

Wow 90 bucks was a deal then. I had to pay 500. Oh well. Grips on mine are the plastic ones too.

I haven't seen any GW revolvers for years, but 40-50 years ago they were fairly common. I believe many TV and movie cowboys used them. If anyone is familiar with Guns magazine, it was the first of the gunmags in general circulation, aside from the American Rifleman, and started publication in 1955-56, I think. Volume 1 Issue 1 of Guns had a GW revolver as its cover photo. I have that issue somewhere.

I've read that Matt Dillon carried a Great Western in Gunsmoke.
