I have one that is 1915 vintage...

Which style of grips are correct for this revolver?

The set where the medallion is "inset" deep beneath the surface of the grip,

Or one of the old style silver ones that are typical of Pre-War Colts?

I want it to be correct.
Why, I don't know...it's just an off-brand gun.

Hello
I just checked mine. It has the old style silver ones on it.
I am pretty sure these are the originals as this came from the original owners nephew.
Hope this helps.

I don't know which is correct, but I can solve your problem for you. Just send me the Colt, I'll send you a pint of Mr. Dickel's finest, and you won't have anything to worry about.

Since I've been trying to find a correct set of grips for this thing high and low for several months now.

Guess I'm not as good a scrounger as I used to be.

I'm going to buy an ugly, yet early Official Police with good grips, harvest the grips off of it, and slap a set of Herretts on it and it'll become another shooter.

My Officers Model of about the same year has the deep set medallions. I'll double check in the morning after work and post a picture.

Page 5-took me a few days to find the post! My Colt Officer's Model 2nd Issue is from 1917. S#417412. http://www.proofhouse.com/colt...special_officers.htm
The medallions are deep set and look like they were originally gold and are turning silver with wear. I see the Blue Book says these type of grips were standard from 1913-1923. I'll have to work on resizing photos with my next post!

Thank you bdgreen for your excellent tutorial on posting pictures!

Thank you Ned!

That's a beautiful piece you have there!

I guess I just need to find an early Official police or Army Model with the same grips.

Thank You! It is a nice shooter. It shoots the 148g wadcutters very well. The single action on it is great. Double action leaves a little to be desired though!
