I would like to get my son a laser etched or engraved pocket knife as a gift. Either his initials or first name last initial, or possibly if there is enough room first initial last name.

I would like a Schrade or Case or equivalent knife with these models as possibilities: Whittler, Mini Trapper, or medium stockman. Something with a nice wood handle. I know we have had discussions in the past about which of these style knives are still made in the U.S. but my memory is not so good anymore.

Can these type of knives be etched/engraved? There doesn't seem to be much real estate on the handles of these little guys. What about putting the etching on the blade? I suspect he will use the knife so I wonder about the durability of blade etching vs handle etching?

Is there a one-stop supplier that I can purchase the ethced knife from or do I need to purchase the knife and send it out for ethcing/engraving?

Thanks
Wayne

IMHO, call the "Buck" factory in Idaho (1 800 326 2825) and ask to talk to the custom shop,,, They'll fix you up with something real nice.

Billy Cochrane at Vintage Knives.com carriers a small and tasty selection of knives with a good range of prices. If you don't see what you want email him (on his website) and he'll point you in the right direction.

For not much money, you can get real engraving done here, and get a heck of a great deal on a Case as well:

http://www.xxcutlery.com/

My wife got me one of the new Case Chestnut Swayback Jacks with my initials engraved on the bolster for Valentine's Day. It's a great knife, and the engraving is better than laser engraving. The engraver also sent it 2nd day air at no cost to make sure it arrived on time.

at the buck website you can have a knife made to your specs with materials of your choice and engraving. barre bones about 85$ to 400-500 for exotic materials in the handles.
