Default Would appreciate advice.

Found two pistols at a local pawn shop. Mostly they price things a little high but these two pistols seem reasonable. Would appreciate your thoughts.

Blued steel CZ 75 B Omega w/ box and two magazines. Virtually unfired. Price is $500 OTD.

Blued S&W 59-2 w/ the rear sight with a sort of wing type protection. Condition is average, one magazine, no box, etc. Think they will maybe go $500 OTD.

Hope to be back in town by this afternoon. Drop by and see if they are still in the case. Sincerely. bruce.

The CZ is a good price in my opinion - I have a 75B and a 75BSP01 and I love both. I’m not versed on the Omega but google it for reported problems. I don’t know much about model 59s either but I think that’s a good price too. Maybe they will do a package deal for both if that’s what you were interested in ?

I don't see the 39-59's rising in value as the pre lock revolvers have. I had a 39, could not learn how to shoot it in 2000 Berry's bullet rounds. Thankfully only the diffuser rods of my Chrony suffered. I do, however, appreciate the magazine block safety to immediately render the 39 safe at the touch of a button.

If you are looking to fill a hole in your S&W collection, then the model 59. If you are looking for a shooter, then the CZ. My experience with CZ has been nothing but positive, handguns and rifles included.

CZ for sure. Note that CZ is proud of their magazines and prices them accordingly. I think my son paid $45.00 and $52.00 each for his CZ75 TSO and PCR magazines. It is a heavy gun, so buy a quality belt and holster.

I confess to being a bit of a CZ enthusiast, but I'd be on that CZ at that price like a duck on a June bug!

Go into the shop , look at whichever you wish to purchase , then lay 4 - $100 bills ...Cash Money ... and say that's all I have to spend .
Sometimes cash can get you a discount ... my prices changed when the man was paying me with cash .

I've always been partial to the S&W model 59 ... but that's just personal preferances . I like the way they fit my hand and I shoot them well .

I got a brand new 75 B Omega back in 2019 for $450 … So $500 sounds like a pretty good number today.

Great guns. I highly recommend them. The Omega comes with the switchable option of decocker or safety, and has a nice trigger. 17 round Mec-Gar mags are completely reliable and affordable. Relatively soft shooting & quite accurate.

I bought the CZ75B surplus and have no regrets. Best 9mm I have and not a bit of trouble with it.

I had a CZ75 B. It was single action, similar to a 1911. I gave it to a
grandson. His wife uses it for home protection. Very good gun.

I think we have an identification error. First question is if the S&W is a single stack 8-round magazine or a double stack 14-round magazine. A 39-2 makes quick sense, as that’s the only “dash-2” in the S&W line at that time except for the 52-2, which this is unlikely to be.

If it is a double stack 14-round pistol then the 59 was only ever produced in a no-dash. Made from 1970 to 1982. However, if it has an adjustable rear sight with what appears to be protective wings, it sounds like a 2nd Generation pistol. Blued, then it would be a 559 if steel frame or 459 with blued slide and black alloy frame.

It is very unlikely to be a 2nd Gen slide placed on a 1st Gen Model 59, because the 2nd Gen pistol had a firing pin lock safety that a 1st Gen frame could not defeat. Also, no 2nd Gen pistols were made in dash variations, so there was no 459-2 or 559-2.

All nostalgia aside, the CZ is almost surely the better buy at similar prices.
