I have a friend looking to buy a pistol. I have another friend who has a friend wanting to sell a Taurus Millenium 9mm. I know nothing about this pistol (seen one but never touched one). Should I recomend it to my other friend. New condition 2 mags original box and owners manual,$260.00. Is there anyting I should know or look for if my other friend wants to consider the purchase and have a look at it?

Thanks.

My husband has a .45 Millenium. I can't say that I care for it. You get what you pay for. Nothing near my S&W 1911Sc.
My two cents.

The price sounds like it is way below MSRP. Run away and so should your friend IMHO. With all the info avail. on the net why doesn't your friend do some research for himself. The only way I would even consider that purchase would be through an FFL dealer.

I have not told my friend about it. I dont want to say anything to him unless it is a good deal for him. I am doing the research here. Has none of your friends ever ask you for help finding a gun. Do you make any effort to help them or just tell them to research it themselves. I try to be helpful when I can. And do a little research myself before making recomendations too my friends. I am doing other research as well.

Thanks for your help anyway.

They break sometimes, more often than many other makes of firearm. Taurus customer service isn't the most helpful when that happens. A bit more money buys a Sigma. Shrug. Some people are happy with them I'm sure.

I don't have any experience with their semi-autos...other than my brother-in-law swears by his 92, and it does shoot as good as any Beretta that I've tried. (No personal experience with that model)

I do now own one of the .45/410 revolvers in a blue 6" and it shoots very well for what it is (just like my T/C .410, but with four more shots), and I do own two of the Taurus .22 rifles, which have have been put through the ringer.

No problems with anything so far by me, and even looked at one of their model 627's at the local shop...

That price seems about right for a used one.
From what I've heard, it a bit better featured than a Sigma, and it is (from what they tell me at the range) no more or no less reliable than any other entry level pistol.

However,
I wouldn't suggest picking it out for him, or being the mediator between these two parties. Put him in touch with the other party if you have to, but other than that- there is a chance it could come back to bite you. This happened to me years ago, and swore I'd never let it happen again- and it hasn't.

If the deal goes wrong or the firearm doesn't function (no matter what brand or kind it is), there is a possibility you might become blamed.

However, if you completely trust these two parties and feel it's the "right thing to do," go for it.

I just don't do this kind of thing any more, and hope to spare a new friend some heartache if possible.

I think your right I can't recomend it. Found some info about frams cracking on early models and I dont know new from old on these things. Customer service is a big deal to me also.

Thanks

Sorry if you misunderstood my reply. I didn't mean to imply that you should not seek advice from the members here. That was an excellent idea and we are always glad to help. My gut told me the gun being sold was from "a friend who had a friend" and since the price was so low, it may be stolen or used in a crime. I was only suggesting that you use an FFL to err on the side of caution. Good luck. By the way if the gun is to be used for self defense and the friend who will own it is not real familiar with firearms may I suggest a revolver as opposed to a pistol. The revolver is generally considered more reliable and you can find a lot of good used ones in that price range.

It's going to be hit or miss on the Millenium. If you get a good one, it is a great pistol for the money. If you get one with some problems, it will have to back to Taurus. They will fix the problems, but your friend will still have the hassle of returning it.

I had the Millenium in .45 and it worked great, no issues at all. Very compact and a good shooter. If it was me, for $260 I would gamble and buy it. $260 is a good price but I wouldn't consider it a steal. At shows in the area, I have seen them new in the $325-$350 range.
