Who Doesn’t Like A Shiny New 1911??
Stopped by my favorite place to lose my money, and came home with a new SA Garrison in 9mm.

Years ago I bought a nickeled Colt Government Model through an auction. The auction house had a sense of humor, because the listing talked about it being able to blind the bad guys.

Probably the best choice for a base gun currently made.

Good pickup. I for one, really like a 1911 in 9mm.
Enjoy it.

I have an older Stainless Loaded Target in 9mm. Odd name but great gun. I have always thought the use of the word "Loaded" in naming guns is inappropriate.
Does that one have the ramped barrel?

Good looking gun. Springfield Arms has made quite a reputation for itself. What advantage does the ramped barrel offer?
I wasn't aware of any feed or accuracy problems with the Colts 1911s in 9mm.

I love the shiny nickel 1911s but my favorite will always be the Government Issue military Parkerized guns.

The ramped barrel has a fully supported chamber, so pressures are fully contained. The original 1911 barrel has a section of the cartridge unsupported, which can blow out with higher pressure rounds.

The 45 Auto version of the Garrison has a standard, non-ramped barrel just like most other 1911s.
The 9mm version has an elongated ramp because the 9mm cartridge is much shorter than the 45.
There are two ways to do it. Colt favors machining the ramp into the frame, whereas older STIs, Springfield, etc. seem to prefer using an elongated section of the barrel itself.
I've never heard of any issues with the chamber not having enough support in either arrangement.

Springfield Garrison 9MM
Mk70ss, I found a .38 super supported barrel for cheap, bought a .38 Super magazine and had to find a pistol to put it in. I purchased a blued Garrison in 9mm and now have a two caliber pistol by switching the barrel, magazine and still determining the correct recoil spring for the .38 Super.

Very nice. They are a lot of gun for the money. I have the blued version in .45, and it's a shooter.

I saw the Colt GC at a gun show, and I decided that I needed one shiny gun,,
The end cap of the box says "Enhanced",
Besides polish, the trigger and hammer are jeweled,
and,, this 1911 has a trigger as nice as my S&W Model 41,,
Even the magazine is polished, (the second mag in the box is not polished)
When you look at the gun outside, you can tell what type clouds are overhead,,

The SA Garrison model reminds me of the Baer TRS I had. Very simple, handsome, uncluttered, practical pistol. Good job Springfield.
moosedog, just a comment on the ramped 9mm barrels vs. Colt's traditional unramped 9MM barrels. Having owned 9MM Colts on and off since the '70s, an issue I encountered with each and every one, including my recently purchased 9MM Gold Cup, was unreliable feeding of anything except RN ball ammo as received. This included the factory Colt 9MM conversion kit I once owned. I expected this, and am not upset about my latest Colt's unreliability with other bullet shapes. It has been improving with use. So as with my previous Colt 9MMs, I will work with it, and perhaps get it to function reliably with JHP one day

Looks like he had a bit more done to it besides the thumb safety. The hammer as well as the grip safety have been swapped out from the original. Not a bad thing at all if you plan to shoot it a lot.

Shoots very well. Trigger, at least on this one, is very good. Only put 100 rounds of Winchester 230 gr ball through it, but it shoots to point of aim and groups very well.

This is my favorite shiny example. Real Colt, real .45, mildly customized to get rid of the Mark IV parts for a better trigger pull, and a few other mods.

I have a Ruger SR1911 CMD Lightweight that is a very sweet shooting pistol. There is just one problem I have encountered. That is that you really need to check if those empty magazines in the bottom of your range bag to insure they are for the 9mm. Because if they are Wilson Combat 47-D's they won't work very well. Yeah, I was that dumb. Had the 9mm and two 45's with me and and got a wee bit crossed up.

John, Your "shiny" Series 80 Government Model appears very similar to the same model I carried every working day for several years. Mine has all the S80 FPS parts intact; a requirement of my employer. I guess not all that different looking than the Garrison model either..

My shiny 1911
Here is a nice shiny original Kimber Gold Match from around 1999. Took a chance on Gunbroker on a listing that had lousy pictures. I couldn’t have been happier with the condition and it is a great shooter. I already knew that it would be as I have had an original blue Gold Match since 2004.

Yep, I have a blue Garrison in 9mm. It shoots so soft and nice. I did a bit of minor spring tuning and the trigger breaks at a crisp 3.5 lbs. No misfires after almost 1k rounds. I did have to adjust the trigger overtravel screw and I also changed to full size grips…long fingers.

There are no pressure issues with either the .45acp or 9mm that would neccesitate an integrally ramped barrel.. The ramped barrel is used with the 9mm for increased reliability, due to the shorter overall cartridge length.

I've got a stable of Colt's and the 1911's are my favorite pistols to shoot - I also shoot better with them than any other handgun I own. My Colt GCNM from 1974 is the most shot pistol I own.

Congrats on a solid piece. You can’t go wrong with a SA 1911. I couldn’t decide on blue or stainless, so I went with a Ronin in 10mm. Actually got i for a song through an insider deal with SA. Like most current 1911s chambered for the 10mm, the Ronin has a ramped barrel; Colt’s DE is the only one that still doesn’t.

The Springfields with aluminum frames also come with ramped barrels in all calibers. Hollow points hitting a ramp on an aluminum frame can cause damage and feeding problems due to the softer material. SA and Dan Wesson (maybe others?) fix that issue with the ramped barrel.

The often quoted advantage of a 9mm over the 45 ACP is its greater magazine capacity -

Not always.

This is my collection , a wonderful collection with one problem .There not real. Sadly, this is as close as I can get to the real thing.

Beware the man who only owns one gun. He probably knows how to
use it.

I just got this one from the classifieds here; Springfield Armory Ronin 9mm. All forged, stainless frame and blued slide. Very tight and smooth; the frame slide match up is darned near perfect. Machining is very good with nice squared corners; right on the edge of being too squared and sharp but not sharp enough to cut you. This is a very early one from what I understand and is marked Ronin Operator I need to get some better photographs but here are a couple of stock photos and a photo of mine. This is tighter than the Colt Series 70 I had in the early 1980's.
It will be wearing a nice set of Culina Myrtle wood grips with stainless slotted screws once they arrive and I get the grip bushings changed out ) it came with thin grips and their thin bushings) The Bushings and screws will be Challis which seems like a very good improvement in the bushings. I think the myrtle will look great with the stainless frame

Nice beginner level base gun for a custom build. What work are you going to have done to it?
