There's a video on youtube by Colion Noir and this gun really seems like a winner. Lightweight, muzzle brake really helps tame recoil.

I've been kicking around a new AR upper. 300 blackout, 6mmARC and so on. I might just can those thoughts and get this Ruger SFAR for my coyote and whatever else hunting.

I've got several hundred 308 brass so.....

I recently acquired one in 16”. I topped it off with a Vortex Strike Eagle 1x8, zeroed it at 100, walked it out to 600 yds in 100 yd intervals. I like it, Ruger certainly did their homework on this rifle.
I have two DPMS Recon II’s that I have been shooting for several years and really like them, but the Ruger IMO is even an improvement over the Recon’s.
I have a 20” SFAR coming that I will configure as a DMR
The Ruger IMO is so far “best of breed” in a 308 AR.

Been reading also that the factory trigger on the Ruger is really sweet right out of the box.

Just bought a 16” SFAR today. Need to decide on an optic, attach can, and go.

I bought a 16" recently but haven't fired it yet. I have the scope I want for it but haven't bought a mount yet.

I fired an SFAR belonging to a friend. It is lighter than my Armalite Defender by a pound or 2. If you put a big scope on your SFAR and your weight savings went out the window.
“Sweet” is not a standard unit of measure. lol sorry, I prefer numbers. The SFAR that I shot had a trigger that was 6 pounds with just a little movement before it broke. His gun shot close to MOA with my hand loads; so the trigger was no hinderance. If I didn’t already have my Armalite, I’d have given the Ruger serious consideration. The muzzle break did look cool to me.

Timing is everything.

I like small lightweight scopes on short light rifles. I plan to mount a simple Leupold 1-4X hunting variable, no heavy "Tactical". The stock is very straight. So my question is, how high does the center of the scope need to be above the integral base on the rifle for proper alignment and cheek weld?

I've had mine for not quite a year. Seems to be a 1.5MOA gun, but I only have ~100rnds through it at this point. Likes heavier bullets, with the best results for me so far coming from Hornady TAP 168. It's a range toy for me, so I have a 3-18x mounted at the moment. The adjustable gas block is nice for shooting suppressed, though I wish Ruger had put the longer gas system on the 16" and not just the 20".

Several companies offer picatinny rail adaptable boosters of various heights that will raise a standard scope base to the level you need with an AR type rifle. MidwayUSA has a good selection. They also have some higher AR mounts that will do the same thing at a reasonable price, but adding the boosters to your existing mount might be cheaper.

From the center of your scope to the ridge of the 1913 rail is 1.5 inches.

Everybody and their brother makes an AR mount.

Go 30 MM if possible. My fave for the short barreled AR-10 is the Leu 1.5-5 with the illuminated reticle. It’s like having a Red Dot and a scope all in one. $699 on Optics planet. They had a 12% Ciber Monday discount.

Rodan, I’m willing to wager that after a few hundred more rounds thru that barrel, your groups will shrink some.

The Armalite is 10 pounds, 2 ounces, empty mag, as pictured.
The SOCCOM in the middle is 9 pounds, 1 ounce.
The Budhmaster is just under 8.

I’m a big fan of the small Leupold scopes.
