I need to take the magazine tube on my winchester Model 12 so I can get a plug out of the magazine tube. I have the magazine off of the gun, and I can't seem to get past trying to get the magazine cap off. What seems to be holding the cap on is the long bolt that goes through the end of the mag tube. Do I tap this out or is there a special way to take this thing off?

That through bolt needs to come out. It also needs to go back in the same way it was. It keeps the magazine tube locked into the receiver. Push it in as far as you can & you will see that it is spring loaded.Press against the spring with a small screw driver & push it through. Hope this helps.
