I don't know anything about this subject, but let me try to explain what I'm talking about. I was at the range Sunday and a member had a (Sig 550)?, tactical style rifle, not sure of the model, and he was trying to sight in a (hieroglyphic sight)?, is that what they are called. It was an electronic sight that resembled a Doctor SightII Plus. Now the question. As you look through the sight it had a red circle with cross hairs and the owner of the rifle told me you place the cross hairs on the front iron sight blade. I would have thought that the cross hairs would be used instead of the iron sights. Please educate me on the correct use of this electronic sight.

Hieroglyphics
Holographic
Put the dot on the target and squeeze the trigger. It doesn’t matter where the front sight is relative to the dot and it doesn’t matter if the dot is centered in the FOV. Very forgiving and fast (unless you waste time doing stupid things). You win!

Sir, the guy was probably talking about "co-witnessing" the iron and electronic sights. The idea is to have both sights shoot to the same point of aim.
Many AR shooters who have red dot holographic sights also have backup iron sights (the hip kids at Arfcom call them "BUIS"), usually with at least a rear sight that folds down out of the way, sometimes with both front and rear fold-down sights. If the sights are co-witnessed and the electronic sight dies, you can flip up the backup iron sights and still be sighted in.
There are different theories about co-witnessing. Some say to put the red dot on top of the front sight post, and others like it a little higher.
Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.
