For the people here that own S&W and Taurus 1911's. How do you think your money was spent, by getting the more expensive S&W? Are you glad or sad? Usually you get what you pay for, does that apply here too? Thanks Mikey

Well. I just rerad another posting here in the lounge, concerning quality of Taurus. I guess my original question sounds silly now. From the point of 1911 style guns, it seems you still get what you pay for!! Thanks Mikey

Well, I own a Taurus and think it is a great value for the money. It is more than competetive within its price range. It certainly doesn't have the overall quality of a $1200+ S&W, but I didn't expect it to.

The main difference in any of the models is the quality of the metals used and the attention to finish. The 1911 specs are written in stone and though you do find parts occasionally that require minor fitting that shouldn't due to loose manufacturing tolerances, for the most part you could assemble a working model with likely every single part made by a different manufacturer ( shoot, I think I've almost done that once or twice ) and still have a reliable, serviceable firearm.

John Moses Browning was a stone genius, and those of us who love the old slab sides still marvel at the ingenuity and talent that it took to design and manufacture that weapon 100 years ago and that it survives to this day with many improvements although the basic design remains unchanged. IT WORKS. May not be perfection, but it'll do til perfection gets here, imnsho.

I inherited a PT1911....it has features I really like, and well worth what the retail would have been IF I had purchased it.

I never cared for S&W autos from years ago (Le Horreur!!!---still, they never fit my hand properly) Haven't been around the newer versions.

Impressed with the Taurus on balance.
And recently had opportunity to make close comparison with an econo Charles Daly version of the P35 Browning.

Fit in both was very good, and functionality seems adequate. Of course they are not cosmetically buffed to higher standards. Still in the 'wringing out' phase with low round counts of each. So far so good.

I have the Taurus 1911 and the wife has a Taurus PT58 in 380 and both have been flawless and acurate. Can't speak for the S&W as I don't have one.

Thanks to everyone for their reveiws on the 1911 Taurus. It looks like most people like them for the features they have, compared to their cost. Most of what I own are S&W, but the Taurus has caught my eye. If I could just refrain from buying those old, blued steel, revolvers, maybe I could save up for that 1911!!! Thanks mikey

i wanted a 1911 that wouldnt break the bank. i looked at some rock islands, but the Taurus had more features for just a tad more money. now i admit i would have bought a SA GI if the shop had one or a Colt/Kimber if i had the cash. but for $500, the gun has served its purpose well.

the only issue i have had so far is that it wouldnt feed my JHP. but i switched to Speer GoldDots and havent had a problem.

I thought Gaston Glock took care of that.
