Been looking to get a 380 Auto for some time. Came down to the Beretta 84 and the Taurus PT58HC Plus. A blued Beretta ran a good $200 more than the stainless Taurus. And before anyone says "that because Beretta is built better," keep in mind that the Taurus PT92 beat the Beretta 92 a few years back in a Gun Tests review. I wanted a medium sized gun (I plan to get an LCP or Kahr 380 down the road), so I bought this Taurus PT58HC Plus (which comes with two 19 round mags).

This is a rather rare gun in the US. Only 2-4 on GB at any given time. Have never seen any for sale at gun stores or gun shows.

I got the gun from my FFL on Monday, 5-11-09 after work. I gave the gun a close inspection. Excellent workmanship and well fitted. Here are some pics:

Went to the range on Saturday 5-16-09 with 3 boxes of American Eagle 380 and 2 boxes of PMC 380 ammo. Gun shot dead on to point of aim at 7-10 yards. Here are a few pics:

This one is a keeper.

Nice, I honestly hadn't even heard of that pistol.

Thanks. It is a gun that is flying under the radar. From what I've learned, Taurus sells a lot of them in the South American market. In The US, the model is hardly known. The specs for the gun at the Taurus page are wrong (both about barrel length and weight).

Anyone looking for a nice medium sized 380 that has high capacity should look at this gun.

They probably build them mostly for those countries where .380 is allowed, but "military calibers" such as the 9x19mm are not, and only import "X" number into the U.S. owing to a relatively lower level of demand for larger .380s. The shine of the finish also suggests a gun popular in Central/South America.

If it is like the Beretta 84F that I had, it's probably virtually recoil free.

Correct, GatorFarmer. It is Taurus' version of the Beretta 84. I'm glad I went with the PT58HC.
