Went looking at guns in a pawn shop with my little cousin, who just got back from his 2nd tour of Iraq. We looked at a Beretta Cougar in .40. Gun was used, but we took the slide off, and I'd say it couldn't have had as much as a box of ammo through it, and seemed to be fair priced. Anybody have any info on these? I know the brand and the 92 have good reputations.
Also, this appears to be the mini-Cougar, and it has a grip extension that the full size mag fits through.

I've owned several 92s, and would recommend a Beretta. I remember looking at the Cougar when it first came out, and thinking it looked like a nice gun- good size, reasonably ergonomic shape, simple to operate. I've never really warned up to the .40 round, but if the price is right on the Cougar, and you like the .40, then go for it!

Didn't the Cougar have that rotating barrel design?

Yes. Stoeger is producing the Cougar now, and from what I have read, is just as nice as the Berettas.

Only complaint i remember is that it came out during the 'crime bill' and doesn't take 92 mags.

I have a 92FS and a PX4 in 9mm. The PX4 is the newer poly version of the Cougar with the rotating barrel design. It's one of my favorite shooters.

I spend a lot of time at the Beretta forum and the Beretta Cougars have a great reputation. The Stoeger (Beretta owned) version is a great value for a NIB gun since Beretta quit manufacturing under it's own name.

If the price is OK, I'd highly recommend it as a reliable and accurate shooter. I very much like the grip as well.

I had the opportunity to fire one of them many years ago. It was a .45 I think but what ever, it fed a hundred rounds with out a hitch and put bullets where it looked. Trigger seemed good and recoil was lighter than other pistols in its class. My only complaint was that it seemed fat.
