Keep your eye on the online auctions. I bought a like-nib 6" 357 blued Security Six with box and papers last week on Auction Arms for $350. I have bought a few guns lately on AA and have not been dissappointed. Seems like the pricing has been better than Gunbroker.com

Summit Gun Broker has some from time to time. None on his site, but drop him a email. Mark is a great guy to deal with.

Ditto. Got a nice M60 from Mark about year or so ago.

Great revolver, fun to shoot, but watch out for the short cylinder, Round-nosed 357s will extend past the cylinder and lock up the gun/fail to shut. Just FYI.

Recently picked up a nice stainless Security Six. Great gun that I am very happy with. Here it is with a few of my other six inch ss revolvers.

RonJon:

That certainly is a beautiful specimen of a 6" Security-Six! It looks like a Model RDA-36? I'd love to own an very rare New Model RDA-86-since the .38 Special caliber adjustable sight Security-Sixes are collectible-but, are rarely found! I have a NIB Old Model RDA-86 .38 Special, 6" Security-Six as shown in the photo below:

Best revolver action Ruger ever made. Ludco Gun Shop in Parker City Indiana had a used 6" Target grey model at $450 last time I was there. Target grips and RR/WO. Don't know if he'll ship or not. Google him, I know he's got a website. Good luck in your search, great guns!

Are you talking about long reloads, or what? I've had a couple of these guns, and they worked with all sorts of factory ammo.

I've owned at least 5 Ruger Security Sixes and 2 Service Sixes, and have never found a factory load that was to long for the cylinder.

Ah, my first centerfire handgun.
I read an article in one of the gun mags back in 1982 that discussed the 4" stainless Ruger Security Six with heavy barrel that Bill Jordan had Ruger builr for the Border Patrol. I had to have one!
Great gun with excellent handling. Excellent trigger after a trigger job

Mickey D, that is the gun I was issued in the BP Academy in 1982, good guns, built like a tank. The only issue we had was unburnt powder getting behind the ejector star and locking up the action after sustained shooting. Despite my preference for S&W's, the Ruger was a good gun, and I carried it for 3 years until I obtained & got permission to carry my Model 28. One day I'll find a deal one, and make it part of the herd,

Thanks for the memories...

BTW, the Pacs were standard on the BP model I was issued.

Mine looks like stainless--but it's just blue wear. With a "couple" of extras around I figure I'm set for about the next 750 years.

Jimmy,

I first saw the Ruger Security Six when I was 18 years old back in 1974. I really wanted one, but couldn't afford it. I tried over the last few years to find a used one - ideally a 4.0 inch barreled stainless steel one with adjustable sights, but a blued "beater" would also work. I just could not find one that met my needs. Finally, I found a blued steel 4.0 inch barreled Security Six with adjustable sights. I got the price down to $320.00 + tax and considered myself lucky. Shortly after, every time I turned around it seemed like someone had a Security Six that was in better shape and at a better price. One thing I learned that is important - be wary of the 150 series, which was the first model of this pistol. They modified the grip frame shortly after and trying to find original or after market grips for a 150 series is neither fun, nor cheap. I don't really regret my buy, that Ruger is rugged and accurate - one less gun on my grail gun list. By the way, many holsters for a K frame S&W will also fit a Security Six without any problems. Also, Safariland Speedloaders for S&W K frame revolvers will also fit the Ruger Security Six series as well.

Best of luck,

Dave

I have a blued 6 incher. Right now it's the only 357 Mag I have. I bought it new, but it's lost a lot of its blueing, having been in and out of a El Paso Saddlery Tom Threepersons holster a few thousand times, and having been carried probably several hunderd miles on weekend trips in the desert. The revolver is dead accurate: I used to carry it sighted in for 100 yds with 125 gr HP bullets, and it was dangerous opn man-sized targets at that range. It's been FAR too long since I've carried or fired it.

I don't know that there are many police trade in ones circulating these days, at least not in large numbers. The most sought after of the Six Series Rugers may well be the 2 7/8" snubs, particularly the stainless ones. These make a nice substitute for the K frame .357 mag snubs, and while more durable sell for less. Expect to pay 375 and up for a snub, less for 4" a bit less still for 6". Blue guns sell for less than stainless.

Auction Arms is probably your best bet to turn one up.
