Default CZ-82 9x18 Makarov

Does anyone own one of these? If so, what is your opinion of it ? Is hollowpoint ammo available and if so will the gun function properly with it?
Thanks for any info.

I think they are an excellent value, you can carry as a traditional DA/SA or cocked & locked. Corbon and Horandy make defensive ammo for the 9X18, perhaps others do also, and mine has been trouble free.

I have one. Be careful with them. Mine needs a new mag release since it doesn't drop the mags cleanly. I have to pull them, in some cases pry them, out. Mine won't feed JHPs, other claim that theres will. JHPs are available from Georgia Arms and others.

They're somewhat heavy and not all that small. If you can afford one, I'd pick a pocket Glock over one, since the weight is close.

There is no decocker. You can either carry it cocked and locked, condition three, or (carefully!) lower the hammer on a live round.

Like any other surplus gun, condition will vary and you never know quite what you'll get.

To be fair, most people who have one like theirs. I don't care for mine.

A very similar model, the CZ83, is sold commercially in .380, and was imported in 9x18mm in limited numbers. CZ83 mags interchange as do some other parts.

You should have a nice one there, you usually get more than you pay for with a Mac. I have a Russian Mac with the target sights, allowing for the horrible trigger it shoots real nice. CCI makes the Blazers with the Speer Gold-Dot bullet, they feed, function and are accurate out of my Mac.

I've had one for some time now and think that it is real good bang for the buck.

All I've put through it is Rooski Wolf and Bear ammo. It has performed flawlessly.

Default I've had this CZ-83 for years...

It eats anything it's fed and is scary accurate to boot.

I've shot several 82s and have found them to be great guns.
Thirteen round mags are pretty nice for such a small gun...

And...as others have mentioned, ammo is available.

Oh, if you get one...don't use "brake cleaner" type scrubbers on the gun without removing the grips first...don't ask how I found out.

I've had a CZ82 for a couple years now and its been a excellent shooter for me, I shoot only ball ammo in it now, but have used HP ammo without any problems. Mine is very accurate from 7-15 yards, which is about all these old eyes can handle these days.

The CZ82 has a polygonal bbl that at first sight appears to have a smooth bore, but in fact does have rifling. The claim is that the polygonal rifling has less bullet deformation, resulting in reduced drag on the bullet which helps to increase range, accuracy, and velocity, however, most manufacturers including Glock, H&K and Kahr say not to use lead bullets with the polygonal bbls that it can cause a lead build up.

Normal rifling left and Polygonal right

+1 with VonFatman about not using "brake cleaner" type scrubbers, they will mess up the grips.

I also had the same problem as GatorFarmer with the mag release, however, after breaking the CZ82 down and soaking it in a solvent, cleaning and oiling, it solved my problem but he's may have a different problem.

I've owned one for a few years now. While it does have a few chips in the paint so far it has fed any ball, HP or lead RN bullet I've run through it. I occasionally use it for cold weather CCW.

I don't have a CZ-82, but I do have a PA-63, which is also 9x18. Hornaday makes a great SD load for the 9x18. It is actually more accurate and more pleasant to shoot in a PA-63 than S&B or Wolf FMJ, IMO.

I have one & like it a lot. I find it to be pretty big for a "pocket" gun, but it is a great small belt gun. Mine shoots well with everything I have been able to find. I'm taking mine to the range today to shoot in a postal match.

If it is the round that you like I would consider a Makarov. I have Soviet and East German Cold War examples and love them both. I have read that the Soviets based it on the PPK but somehow made it with 43 fewer parts.

From everything I read, the CZ-82 is the best gun made that shoots the Makarov round. I'd like a Makarov, too, but it wouldn't stop me wanting the CZ.

My CZ82 eats anything and is as accurate as anything in the safe. CZ82s are a lot harder to find now, I'm glad I picked mine up a few years ago when they were down right cheap.

Buffalo Bore makes a great 9X18 defense round, sort of a 9mm. MAK on steroids.

Here are some photos of mine. I never really planned on buying one, but I finally obtained a CZ-75B, and was really impressed with the workmanship and fit of the piece. I was able to buy my CZ-82 along with 2 magazines, the funky Eastern Bloc holster, and lanyard at a good price, and a few boxes of ammo thrown in. It is sturdy and accurate, and I'd rather have and use it than a .380ACP.

Regards,

Dave

I think a CZ82 was the first gun I bought with my C&R license several years ago. They are snappy little shooters.
