I posted about a year and a half ago, and showed the two that I owned at the time (and still do). Shortly after, I bought this, and it soon became my favorite rifle:

Wow, my last post in this thread was in 2009 . . . I've picked up at least two more Rugers since then.

I got a few GP's around the house. They are an impressive gun.
I bought a LCR .327 for wife's Xmas prez. Brand new gun, right out of the box the trigger jams.
Snapshots : Photo
When I compare the fit and finish of the Smith to Ruger, the Smith is best. Even when the LCR does not jam the action feels rough. After the LCR fiasco I'm done with LCR Rugers. I bought my wife a Smith. I don't want her using the LCR. When it is fixed I will dump it. (.327 LCR is heavy as well. Maybe 4 oz over the .38 LCR.)

I have owned several over the years, but went a long time without. About a year ago I got a stainless .357/9mm Blackhawk convertible and am trying to get adjusted to single actions again.

I've owned a bunch of Ruger's in my time. Most were 22's, at one time I had a half
dozen 10/22's, and a couple of 77/22's, plus another half dozen Ruger 22 handguns.
I've also owned three or four blackhawks, a Super Blackhawk, a Vaquero in 45 Colt
(the old Vaquero), and a couple/three Speed/Security-Sixes.
I've only got four now. A Wally-World Special 10/22, and a Single-Six 50th anniversary 22,
and a P95DC, 9mm Semi.
And, my most recent is a LC9s, 9mm compact. Man that is a nice gun. GREAT trigger.
LGS had them on sale dirt cheap last week. They had the raspberry/pink frame, but I
didn't care about that. About 100 rounds without a hitch.

The Six series revolvers were everything the S&W K frame .357 should have been. Designed from the ground up to shoot .357, unlike the k frame .357's that were souped up .38's and not true .357. You can shoot .357 exclusively in a Six revolver with no worries. While they aren't as pretty as a Smith, being able to completely disassemble a Ruger with a dime if that's all you have is a big plus. As much as I love my Smith's, the Service Six I have would be the last revolver I would sell. L frame toughness in a K framed sized gun.

Rugers: I own/have owned a number of them over the years, my first 3 handguns were Rugers. Fine serviceable, strong, accurate guns. Not the fancy finish of a S&W or Colt, but they get the job done. Same goes for their long guns.

When the GP100 was first introduced I liked it. I was new to shooting at that time and had just bought a 6" 686-1. I considered trading the 686 for a GP but just couldn't do it. My 686 had a much better trigger than the GPs. After 30 some odd years and adding several S&Ws to the herd I finally bought a 4" GP100 this year. In its own way the GP is a great gun. I still have the 686 and its trigger is still better but there is something about that blocky GP that I like. It's not as elegant as a Smith but has its own charm.
My wife has a SS .357 Blackhawk that her dad always had available on the farm. It's a great sidearm for that purpose.
My brother left me another blued .357 Blackhawk and a 77RSI in .30-06.

Here are a couple of my favorite Rugers. On top, an old model Ruger Super Blackhawk, made near the end of production, and an old model Flattop with factory stag grips. Both in .44 magnum, of course.

Not exactly a 'closet' fan as I've published pictures of this gun several times: a Ruger Security Six with 6 " barrel. Owned it for years and shot it a lot. the wear marks from being carried in that Tom Threpersons El Paso Saddlery holster are clearly visible. I've never owned another Ruger although I've shot several Mk I target pistols belonging to Uncle Sam, and a #3 rifle in 45-70 that was almost the hardest kicking gun I've ever fired.

I collected custom Ruger single action revolvers before I bought my first Smith & Wesson. There are probably 4 or 5 Rugers for each Smith in the safe. Started a journey about 10 years ago to commission a custom Ruger revolver from each of the top revolver artists of this day and age and we are down to just one more to get finished, a Damascus octagon sleeved barrel 500 Linebaugh by Dustin Linebaugh. The only custom Smith is a model 58 that Hamilton Bowen converted to a 5" 45 Colt with combat sights.
Here is my Alan Harton Ruger. A five shot long cylinder 414 Supermag built on a Ruger Maximum frame with the top strap rewelded and machined to duplicate a Freedoms Arms so I could use a Freedom Arms Lovell scope mount.

Yup. After my MKII target, they just kept popping up in the safe somehow.
Semi. Revolver. Rifle. All found good company with the other marques in the safe.
Even the Mauser said "Willkommen!".

I have owned exactly 4 Rugers. Three Ruger No.1 in: .300Win Mag (with a muzzle brake); .22-250 and .218 Bee.
Also had a 10/22 once many years ago.
Back in the mid 80's, I had a chance to buy a nice early M77RSI (mannlicher-style stock) .308 that would have been the best whitetail rifle ever made. I left the shop thinking about the $300 price tag, and went back about an hour later to get it. It was gone. I still feel bad about that.

Forced into owning the Ruger
Yes Ruger has and does make a quality revolver but S&W is my chosen Brand. Its only because S&W discontinued producing the .327 Magnum that I chose to purchase an SP101 chambered for this round. The single action has never been something I was comfortable with although the look and lore have always caused me to want examples so the SP101 was the only alternative. I could not pay the asking prices for the remaining S&W revolvers with out the Internal Lock either.

Have owned a bunch!
The first handgun I ever bought was a 22 convertible.
Have owned a purple loading Gate 357 Blackhawk with a Deming sight.
When I was heavy gun trading, once owned more RedHawks (13) than any other handguns I ever owned.
All gone! Don't own any now.
If I bought one - it would be a 5 1/2 inch bull barrel probably Mark ll.

I worked many part-time jobs to buy my first double-action .357 in 73, a 150-series Security-Six that I carried on duty. I added Herrett Shooting Star Target Grips to my SS and that gun went to town in my duty holster. I shot many .357's through that 33-ounce firearm and it withstood the battering like a German Tiger Tank in WW2. Simple to break down and clean and I still (proudly) have that Ruger. Mr. Bill knew how to build "strong" six-guns! Great posts here!

I love certain models from Ruger. There is no need to be a "closet" Ruger fan. Several of us here have published articles in the Ruger Collectors Association Journal, including Doc44. I am pretty sure I remember an article in the RCA Journal by Roy also, but will defer to others on this.
Ruger makes a spectacular example of the SAA at any price, and the price is very favorable. Jeff Cooper liked his Super Blackhawk so much he had the cylinder made as rust resistant as possible for that era by having it finished in Armaloy, which gave it a unique two-tone appearance. He was quite a fan of the little Bearcat also. His was also two-tone. Skeeter Skelton was a fan of Ruger, and Elmer Keith had some also.
In the last 10 years, or maybe a little more, a great number of S&W managers and engineers have gone to work for Ruger, which accounts for their successful entry, after S&W, into the various markets including combat pistols, AR rifles, 1911s, etc.
With the price and features, it is hard not to appreciate Ruger.
That said, I still think the S&W has the better action. I think S&Ws are more handsome (that is just a personal preference issue, obviously), and I think that S&W guns are equally as strong, despite not being as thick. Others will disagree, and they are entitled to their opinions. On the other hand, I do not use the kind of loads that some handloaders seem to like so much.
I have said this before. We are lucky to have so many great guns from which to choose. Personally, I wish the American companies all success.
So, could we all get along with a Model 10 and a 1911? Yes, but the variety makes it more fun!
To the product planners at Ruger: How about a true "half-lug" (I despise that term, preferring "standard ejector shroud" versus "full length ejector shroud") GP-100 with a round barrel like the old Security Six? Yes, I know about the Match Champion, but feel the same way about its appearance as I do most of what comes from the Performance Center at S&W.
Enjoy your Rugers. They make good stuff! And for all of you who still hold a grudge against Bill Ruger for saying he thought a 15 round magazine was all consumers needed, you can do what you want, but the Ruger family has been out of the business now for several years, and their aggressive pursuit of the items Bill Ruger did not wish to pursue shows they are committed to gun owners, including those who like ARs, semi-autos, high cap magazines, and suppressors.

My dad was a big M77 fan. I blame him. Currently I own a Single Six .22 LR, New Vaquero Montado .357 mag., All-American .22LR, and a .30-06 Lipsey's Edition RSI.

I WAS NEVER IN THE CLOSET ABOUT IT.
Back in the 70's - 80's almost all I owned were Rugers. I currently own 4 and really can't think of a single one I would not want back:
10-22 22 lr takedown
Single six 22 lr with 22 wmr spare cylinder
MKl 6" target
MKll Gov't x 2
Sp 101 x2
Redhawk 357
Old army B/P
M77V all weather 25-06
Red label 28 gauge with English stock & nice wood.
I've never owned/fired one of their "new fangled" semi auto centerfires. A #1, 480, Vaquero are still wish guns.

There are some nice looking powder burners in this thread. I see all but 3 are range and safe guns. I need to get the wife to post the pictures of my Ruger Mark 1 I bought nearly 50 years ago. I feel it will shame all on here. It is FAR from a safe queen. In fact I can say with some confidence that it has spent more time underwater than most guns have spent out of the safe. I am not much of a Ruger fan but I do have a few.

Only one for me a LCP 380. I like to carry it in a Remora holster in my pocket when I walk my dog in my neighborhood.

Nothing "closet" about it. I'm a big SA revolver nut. The crown jewel of my Ruger collection is a 1957 vintage unconverted Single Six. It wears it's age elegantly and functions flawlessly. I'm also a big Mini 14 fan. This takes nothing away from Smith & Wesson. Apples and Oranges.

Not much of a closet guy myself but I do have a few and they get brought to the range as much as the rest. Matter of fact All my guns see the range @ the same time seeing as how my main range is in the back yard.
Mark 2 bull barrel
Redhawk with 7 1/2" barrel wearing a 2 power Leupold
10/22 fixin to get a facelift.

I am a rimfire nut and ruger makes some fine ones.
Single-six .22lr/wmr
Mark II standard
First year Mod 77/22 is my first rifle was given to me on my 15 birthday.
2 10-22s
One of the 10-22s was gift to my dad from mom when he made his last trip back from Vietnam. I might be homeless living in a box on skid row, this one will never leave me.

Yeah, I've had a few Rugers over the years. The only ones I have now is an LCP 380, LC9s, a super single six, a 10/22 and a American rifle in 22 magnum. I almost bought a 77/44 stainless rifle the other day but decided I didn't need it and bought a M&P performance center 9mm shield instead. Glad I did.

The only Ruger I have owned and been happy with was a 10/.22 gopher slayer I had for several years.
Otherwise simply not a Ruger fan.

I have a Super Blackhawk Bisley .44mag, which is primarily for target work. I've only shot .44 specials with it.

Back in 60s when I was a teenager and didn't know any better
was into Ruger SAs. Was still a Ruger cheerleader until the new
model. Same with Ruger long guns, I have several older ones,
but not interested in any new Rugers. Love the old ones. Brother
Bill is probably spinning in his grave with the quality of the new
ones. You can tell by pics, this was clear back from Black & white
era.

I've owned a super blackhawk, single six,an ultralight rifle in 243 and just sold a mark III target.Still own a 77/17,early standard and an early Mark I Target.
I couldn't afford Winchesters and S&W back in the day and Rugers are a good value.
