On second thought, I would buy a 10-22.
And maybe a Blackhawk, 357 shorter barrel.

I have owned many Rugers over the years but never found one that I could really bond with and usually sold or traded them away. A few years ago, I happened on a GP100 Royal Phoenix that caught my eye and I bought it. It is bright blue with polished hammer and trigger unlike the standard GP. I think that this one will be a keeper.

We own 3 Rugers, none of them wheel guns. I've owned a MkII target pistol for nearly 30 years. Its a tack driver and I'll never part with it. I have an LCP for deep concealment where even the 442 is too bulky. I just bought my daughter a 10/22 Stainless Steel takedown model that is threaded. She is enjoying learning the ways of the rifle with it.

Well, I have said for years dollar for dollar you cannot beat Ruger guns.

I have had a few over the years, and still have a few in the safe.

Got my first one in 1972, when the peoples republic of NY gratuitously allowed me to own a pistol, In that era trying to get your hands on a good S&W (new or used) was difficult so I gave up trying and bought the then new Security Six. (4'' adjustable sights .357) which by now has had a heck of a lot of shots run threw it, many of them full power.

Same reason a couple years later wanted a .44M but getting your hands on one after Dirty Harry came out was impossible unless you wanted to pay a "premium" (Like close to double price)

Bought a Ruger Super Black hawk and believe it or not I had master pistol smith Austin Behlert do a trigger job on it when he was at our club during a big statewide match. I was a RO for the event

Have a early 7722 (Very accurate), had a 7722M and a 7717 and a 7mm Mag . Also have a nice 44M semi auto from the 70s, a 1022, and the first stainless Mini 14 to hit the Albany area way back when..
Now carrying a LCR in .38 and really like it.

My S&W and Rugers set side by side in the safe and never argue, they play well together!

I have some old models and one new model Super Blackhawk. Carry them more than I do my S/W snubby.

Actually, I'm a closet S&W guy (Shield 9). I only own the one Smith, although it is my EDC, but my wife and I own six Rugers between us.

The OP's question led me to do some math. I just discovered I have more Rugers than S&W's.

I have had lots of Rugers. Still have a 10/22 and 5 Ruger Revolvers. I have as many Smiths now as Rugers.

I do however own a MKII bull barrel and a 77/22

Of the three Rugers I own, my favorite is this 6 inch .357 Security Six in stainless. It was the first gun I bought back in 1977. It came with the standard stocks but I have Ruger targets showing in the picture.

The first new centerfire revolver I purchased was a 6 inch GP-100. Since then I've owned nearly two dozen Ruger Revolvers and six rifles. I'm down to two 10/22's, a stainless Police Service-Six, two Mark II's and the following single action revolvers:
Super Single-Six Convertible 9.5 inch
Super Single-Six Convertible, stainless 6.5 inch
NM Blackhawk Convertible, .45 ACP/Colt 4.58 inch
NM Super Blackhawk.44 Mag 4.58 inch
NM Blackhawk.357 Mag 4.58 inch
NM Flattop Blackhawk .44 Spl. 5.5 inch, 2005 Lipseys version.
My wife has a Mark III which I converted to Mark II, which she just loves.
The Rugers I parted with were almost all double actions, hey I have Smith and Wessons! Kept the Police Service-Six because it is very accurate and has a great trigger, oh my wife loves it too.

SR22, Sr40c, MKII and MKIV, LC9s. I will put any of these guns against any other brands of similar guns knowing these are quality guns. I have owned other brands similar to these guns but they are gone and the Rugers stayed.

Ruger seems to be the only manufacturer who can always build a semi-auto .22LR pistol which functions properly with just about any standard or high velocity ammunition. I have a long list of .22 pistols from Walther, S&W, Sig Mosquito, GSG, and even Browning which would only run reliably with one or two types of ammo, usually CCI Mini Mag. I no longer own any of them.

I refuse to be without my Security Six, Mini-14, and 10/22. I'm a die hard .45 Colt fan and Ruger has a number of products to satisfy that obsession. I do have Smith & Wesson to thank for getting me started though. In 1986 I read an article in Guns & Ammo about the Smith & Wesson Model 25-5. I ran right out and bought a brand new one for $360. Once I shot it I knew I was hooked. Regrettably, the only .45 Colt revolver that Smith still makes is way North of $1000 and Ruger prices aren't much better. I'm glad I did my buying in the '80s and '90s.

I've had a few; couple of GP100's, Sp101's, LC9, PC4, Mark II's and III's, 4" Redhawk .44 Mag., and such. I only have a couple at the moment; the 10-22 and the 22-45. I prefer L-Frames to the GP100's, J-Frames to the SP101's and 629's to the Redhawk. The Ruger's are good guns, but I prefer my Smiths. Whoops, almost forgot my retirement gun, the New Vaquero

I am down to a Ruger MKII these days. I sold my two Six-Series snubs and a Mini-30 about a year or so ago and my .357 Blackhawk about 20 years ago. Can't say that I miss them. Good, stout, well made guns. Just did not appeal to me any more.

I have a MkII target, and a stainless 10/22 carbine. Both first rate firearms in my opinion. The mark II is the least picky semi auto pistol I own. I swear if you made a round out of dirt it would chamber it at least

I would like a single shot rifle, but thus far the rifle and the cash have not been in the same place at the same time. Maybe someday.

My only Ruger; a Security Six with 6"barrel. It's been fired several thousand rounds, and been carried in that El Paso Saddlery Tom Threepersons holster for many miles. Most of the bluing on both sides of the barrel has been worn off. Hogue grips.

I have had a couple security sixes, a 357 Blackhawk and a 44 Blackhawk all long gone.

I still have a 22 Bearcat, a MKII 22, a Old Army

In rifles a Mini 14, a 77 in 223, a 77 rebarreled to 6mm Remington, a 77 in 25-06, a 77 in 300WM and a 77 in 338 WM

I was once tempted by a Redhawk in 480, but chose the 4" 28-2 with TT, TH and Target grips that was in the case beside it for lessmoney.

M77 in .270 Winchester, two 10/22's and a Mark II Target... Fully 60% of my 22lr's are from Ruger.

None are "in the closet": but they are in the gunsafe!

Cheers!

I can't believe I'm posting on an eight year-old thread, but what the heck. My 1974 Ruger Standard comes out of the closet a few times per year. After a factory rebuild (free!) by Ruger, it runs great. It's fun to shoot, accurate, and has a better trigger than any of my modern centerfire semi-autos.
