Default Ruger .44 Special Question

A few weeks back I stopped in a shop that specialized primarly in modern 'semi' type firearms, being an old wheelgun crank I noticed a new Ruger Blackhawk in the box. Turned out to be one of the limited run of .44 specials, I couldn't help but pick it up as the price seemed right.
I remember some buzz about these awhile back and called a few dealers listed on the Lipsey distrubutors list at the time, but no one could get them.
After a week or so I called Ruger and was told that only 1000 where produced in each of the 4 3/4 and 5 1/2. What did these end up selling for at the time they were intruduced, and how rare is it to stumble onto one of them? I collect/accumulate all firearms and have always had a love of the .44 special, so I feel what I paid was a good price considering what run of the mill examples are going for.
Any help?
RD

We had a local gun store selling them for $469, but I was never there at the right time!

The way I was told was Ruger was to make 250 of each barrel length
each quarter of this year.
