A fellow forum member wants to buy a couple boxes of pistol ammo from me.

It's Winchester Black Talon.

How do I ship this...UPS?

Does the box need to be marked with special stickers or something?

Are there any places that it wouldn't be legal to ship the evil Black Talon?

You will have to ship thru UPS. As far as I was told by them you cannot ship it thru one of the little store locations. You may want to give them a call. The box has to be marked ORM-D ammunition. Usually they have the stickers at the shipping location. It will also have to be shipped UPS ground so it will take a few days to get there. Hope this helps you out.

If it was me. But it's not I would pack them up so they do not rattle AT ALL. Sealed in a plastic bag and just send it UPS.
Do not know if it is Kosher or not but "Don't ask Don't tell"

I have shipped guns from the local UPS store (with Factory UPS Shipping Labels) rather than go to the UPS Depot. The store never asked what it was as it as already boxed and prepaid.

However what Snakeman posted is the correct method.

I've shipped stuff from the UPS Customer counter at their hub and also from Staples stores...an authorized UPS agent. Both places always ask the contents and its notated on the receipt.

Besides, I'm not trying to hide anything...I'm trying to find out the right way to do this....I ain't going to jail over a couple boxes of ammo.

Gordie, do NOT ship it USPS. Ship UPS or Fedex. You can print out the stickers on-line, google "orm-d".
Just had this conversation on Wed with my FFL. He ships handguns all the time via USPS, and has up until last week also shipped ammo. Guess what happened. A box of ammo he sent to Montana was tossed around quite a bit and split open, revealing it's contents. He got a call from the postal inspector who told him it was illegal to send ammo via USPS even with an FFL. The FFL is also a 30 year LEO and apparently the inspector cut him some slack, told him to use the competition to send ammo.
Had he not been a LEO who knows what may have happened. DON'T SHIP USPS.
I have been shipping some 32's that I have, UPS with the stickers on, they never ask what's in the package. They know already. BTW, they don't charge extra, same freight as anything else.

You are REQUIRED to tell them there's a firearm in the box. Guns can only be shipped from a UPS hub, not a package store.

I didn't know you could use fedex. I called them and they told me they wouldn't ship ammo. Oh well. I still like UPS.

As with anything, depends on who's on the phone. Ammo needs to ship from a Fedex hub, just as UPS. I have shipped ammo many times Fedex, however, most recipients prefer UPS. I, too, like UPS, my driver is consistent.

Make the proper declaration of contents when it comes to ammunition. It means alot as to how it is shipped and even where in the lot of cargo aboard the transit means it is packed and how it is handled. You don't want to be the reason for an accident for the mis/unlabled contents of a package.
There are good reasons for all those HazMat rules.

There is no extra HazMat fee for loaded ammo or primed cases and only the proper sticker on the package needed that UPS/FedEx can supply.

It’s true it depends upon who you talk to, I gave up on the idea, Both UPS and Fed-X told me (on the phone to the hub) in no uncertain terms that ammo must go from a hub. Staples and the UPS Store are not hubs.
The local Pack and Ship guy says that Fed-X over looks the rules, UPS does not. Further he told me that he can ship a firearm for me, overnight rates of course. Clearly this is a violation of UPS/FED-X policies. The nearest hubs are 40+ miles away, bleah!
I decided that it isn’t worth it to me, I agree to send to someone then, like Charlie Brown when I go to kick the ball, Lucy grabs it away.

I stated that what snakeman posted is the correct method.

My local UPS store does not and has not ever asked whatever I ship when I already have a label attached. It just goes on the pile. Christmas presents. guns, hardware etc.

Yeah, I know you did...not trying to pick a fight. Just stating my experience from going to UPS directly and Staples, an authorized agent...they ALWAYS ask.

If I'm shipping one of my target stands, I just say "metal goods". If it's a holster, "leather goods", etc. With ammunition, I'd be more specific.

I have shipped ammo several times and made up my own sticker per UPS regulations. It must be placed on every side of the package. I made them to print on 2"X4" self adhesive mailing labels.
