Ruger 44 Special
My father and I got the new Ruger flat top's in both barrel lengths and I decided to get black micarta grips from Cary at CLC Custom Grips. He does a superb job and they really feel prefect on this revolver.

Very nice grips! I just wish I could find one of the 44 special flat tops.

Joni Lynn, the grips look good. I have the same exact revolver, just a few numbers higher than yours. I enjoy shoting mine with home-cast Keith style SWC's and Unique powder. Very accurate and pleasant to boot. Do you fire your's?
Doe's the gripmaker have a web sight? I don't think I've heard that name mentioned before.

Yes, I fire most of my guns. This one got cleaned, lubed and taken to the range the day I received it. It's quite nice and appears to be a slightly better build/assembly quality than my 50th anniversary 44 flat top.

Joni, I have always been a Smith guy, but have always admired the ruggedness and dependability of the Ruger. It's just that I don't shoot SA that well.I got the Flattop 44 special in 4 5/8" barrel and love it. Think I'll get some aged ivory synthetic grips for it. What type of leather do you use? Took it to the range today. Like it better everytime. Enjoy.

Slim Chance, I know where a 5.5" is but do not know if the dealer will ship. Price is OK. Send me a PM if you want more info.
Thanks

I don't have a holster for it. I have remarkably few holsters, you'd be surprised. I have a very few holsters (maybe 3 or 4) that I can use if hunting with a 29/629 and one I might be able to use for carry as well. There's a couple holsters I can use for carry with a J frame and that's about it except for two for 1911's.

Joni,
I really like the Ruger Blackhawk revolvers. The new 44 Special version is very high on my "must have" list. The grips on yours are a perfect compliment.

Very nice Joni. Those grips are perfect on that gun. You really should get yourself an old west style leather rig to tote it around in though! So, how did the range trial go? Do you like it better now that ya got it a little dirty? What loads were you using? Does it balance well for you with that barrel length? Good luck with the new shooter. Rugers are tough as nails.

Marriage Proposals
Joni,
Given your good looks and fabulous gun collection...
Just a curiousity question....
Exactly how many marriage proposals do you fend off each week from this forum?

I fend off zero marriage proposals, I think the other members have figured that much out about me. I'm single and HAPPY.
Besides I tend to wear thin on most people pretty quick.
The gun shoots quite well but I can't really tell much difference between it and my fathers which is the shorter barrel. Both were fired with original grips though and the checkering on them isn't to my liking nor my fathers.
My loads so far use Unique powder and a 210 JHP. I just wanted these guns for light loads, I have 44 magnums for anything I need more power out of. I still haven't settled on the powder charge yet, I'm goin down from 8 grains to where ever I end up.
I stuck black ebony grips with a bevel base on dads gun and desert ironwood grips on my 50th anni 44 mag flat top.

We've had two in the shop and they are some of the best fitted Blackhawks I've seen. Almost no cylinder slop and very tight BCG's

Did you get them off the shelf in a retail store or did you have an FFL holder order them from Lipsey's? Give us a clue as to what 'street price' might be. I've got a powerful "wantin'" building up.
Are the custom grips somewhat thicker than factory grips?

I ordered them back in November and my dealer appears to have been ignored by the distributor since a lot of other people ordered after I did and had theirs months before mine arrived.
The grips feel good but I didn't check them against the original ones.

Beautiful gun, Joni, and in one of my favorite calibers. If it shoots as good as it looks, you really scored a bullseye!

Rugers
Even though I've never owned a decent Ruger handgun (all had problems) I must admit that is a really hot lookin' gun (not as hot lookin' as my buddy Joni, but hot none the less)!!!

Very nice with the black micarta, Joni. I have white micarta on my cowboy action SS Vaqueros, so naturally was considering ebony or black micarta for my Lipseys 44 Special. It is nice to know how good they look. These guns do seem to be better fitted, finished, and assembled than most Blackhawks. That is a common theme among their lucky owners.
Most folks also report outstanding accuracy. I am still playing with load development but here was my first shooting session with a favorite 44SP load at 50 yards, straight from the shop to the range with a quick barrel/cylinder cleaning.

Hi there Joni, thats a good looking six-gun you have there, the black micarta looks good on it. Posted a few picks of mine in a 5 1/2 incher with a belt, holster and knife. I know thats 45 Colt in the belt loops, I do not have a 44 belt yet.

Hey Muley Gil, it is very simular to a Case bowie, it's a WWII vintage V-44 survival knife made by Collins&Co. They were also made by Case XX, Kinfolks and Western. Originally they were used by the Army Air Corps as a survival tool for airmen and was part of a survival pack. They also were used by the 2nd Marine Raider Battn. under Col. Carson in the Pacific. I collect WWII US knives and bayonets, I have a mint V-44 and scabbard for my collection, and found this one without scabbard. Someone nearly polished off the makers mark on this one and I had the fellow who made my belt and holster make me a matching scabbard for it.

Thanks to a forum member, I have one located and sent an ffl copy and money order to the dealer. My local enabler should have it soon.
Update: I got my revolver less than a week after sending my m/o and ffl copy.
