Lightbulb

I reread the thread title.

What's Your Favorite .22 Handgun?

Now my decision making process is all muddled up.

This would have to be added as I think it is the most accurate.
It is a 48-2 so 22 magnum

I'm amazed that so many of you picked the Ruger MKII. I have one identical to the OP and my first thought was, that's my favorite but that I would be way out numbered by 17s and 617s. When you consider the cost of the MKII I think we'd all have to admit that it's one heck of a good value.
Good thread!

I have a Ruger MKII and it works every time, feels good in the hand and I have faith that I could feed myself with this gun if I was ever put in a survival situation.

The black plastic grips were a bit sharp so I installed MK-III grips for a much smoother feel. Love the wood grips.

Another vote for the Browing Buckmark. One of these days I'd like to shoot a S&W Model 41 and a Model 63.

I got a few since I took the first photo. One is certainly a favorite, not certain which though (haven't got the trigger fixed to my satisfaction on the Sport King so that one ain't it). Joe

Default I have trouble saying no to rimfire handguns

If I had to choose one favorite...well I'll just hope it never comes to that.

But I have a soft spot for Rugers, especially the MK pistols.

This one worked over by Clark Custom is a serious shooter that can shoot with my Model 41.

The quiet ones are a lot of fun.

Ruger also makes some great Rimfire revolvers. The 4-5/8" Single Sixes are some of my favorites to shoot. I would really like to shoot the 9-1/2" but it's a somewhat rare version that has been new-in-box since 1974 and I just can't bring myself to do it. The 4-5/8" photographed with it is also a scarce one from the same Star series in 1973-74 but it was shot a lot before I bought it so I continue to shoot it.

Their SP-101 .22LR is a good, solid revolver too.

I've had a few Beretta .22LR pistols but I only kept this Model 87.

Browning makes some fine rimfire pistols.

I didn't actually have this Medalist threaded.

As I understand it this is a somewhat rare Buck Mark Black Label. 250 were made with this grey frame and 250 with a black frame for the 2013 SHOT Show. I never have shot it but it feels great in the hand.

This is the only Colt rimfire handgun I own. It's got a great trigger.

My wife enjoys her SIG 1911/22.

This Thompson Center Contender with a .22LR Match barrel is a phenomenal shooter but it's a little unwieldy.

Of course I guess Smith & Wesson makes a good rimfire handgun or two. The ones I still own are: 63-5, 617-1 4", Model One Second Issue, 17-3, and Model 41. I sold the the 617 No Dash 6" because it was too heavy and I sold the 63 No Dash because I liked the 63-5 a lot more.

My Model 41 recently got a facelift.

Default .22WMR

I forgot all about the AMT Automag II. This is a ton of fun to shoot but since the ammo has all but gone extinct it never sees the range anymore. I have quite a bit stocked but I save it for the more practical rifles I have chambered in that round. It's a shame really.

If it's got a can hanging from the muzzle I'm not too picky. But this Ruger probably gets taken to the range more than my others.

I have to agree with that. I still use my silencers at indoor ranges next to guys shooting ARs. They sound cool even through the hearing protection.

Fotoman, what is your overall impression of the Beretta 87. I tried ordering one but finally gave up.

BTW, excellent pictures!

Thanks.

I really like the Beretta 87 but I got mine ANIB from Bud's for $525 a few years ago just as the prices on these were getting crazy. If I had to pay the current going rates I probably wouldn't buy one. They are beautiful, elegant, and very well made but you can get a S&W Model 41 for the prices some of these Beretta 87s bring now. The one thing I don't like about the 87 is that it has fixed sights. I like adjustable sights on my rimfire pistols. I originally bought this one for a suppressor host but decided not to modify it, at least right now.

I've always liked the Beretta 8X pistols (most of which are .380ACP) and have owned a few Model 85s. I currently own a more rare Model 86 (tip-up barrel .380) that is being refinished at CCR.

I got the 86 back from CCR a few weeks ago. I'm very pleased with it.

Whoops, I lied. I do have another Beretta rimfire pistol. My grandfather gave me this Model 948 several years ago but I never shoot it so I forgot about it.

My favorite is my early port-war Smith & Wesson K-22 Masterpiece. It makes me look like I really know how to shoot.

The one on the right. '51

The one on the left ain't bad either. '47. The youngster of the lot, the 17-3, wasn't invited to the photo shoot.

Cooter,
I imagine there's a number of guys on this forum who would like to own that 1947. Birthday gun for me. The 51 would suit my brother.

Default Fave .22s

I just salivate thinking about them.
The hands-down most accurate one I have is the Sig Hammerli. It's a common companion when going to the range.

BUT, I LOVES my S&W 34, 63, 17s, 18s and "pre" models, the Combat Masterpiece being my favorite. It is a favorite with my students, too, and I've had to fend off earnest entreaties to sell it to one.
The accompanying pic has my 648, too. The 648 has restored my faith in the .22 Magnum.

Still if I want to shoot the legs off mosquitoes, I take the Hammerli.

My 17-3 will stay with me for life and then go to whichever son treats his mother better.

Still the .22LR upper for my Witness gets a lot of use, too.

It's either the Browning Buckmark or that Ruger New Single Six. It just kind of depends.

I love my Smith and Wesson Model 34-1...

But, I think if I had to pick one...just one...it would be my Ruger MkII target. A fun and accurate shooter!
