Shortening the stock on a Mossberg Maverick shotgun?
I bought a Maverick 12 ga. pump from Academy sports for $159 and the buttstock is at least an inch too long. I don't want to spend a bunch of cash on a new stock, so I was hoping to get a hacksaw and shorten the butt and then file down the rubber pad to fit. It doesn't have to look PERFECT, but I want it to at least look decent. Has anyone ever tried this before with a Mossberg Maverick synthetic stock?

I believe the inner portion of the stock is hollow, check the length of the screw that holds the recoil pad to the stock.

They usually are if composite. A wooden insert must be fitted first.

I cut about an inch off of mine. The screw channel extends into the stock for several inches. Once you cut it you will have to drill new pilot holes for the wood screws to fasten the pad back on.
Also, the pad itself has a metal insert so you can only take off a specific amount of rubber around the edge.
EDIT: My LOP (with the original pad) is now exactly 13.5 inches (trigger face to rear of pad), so I know you can take off that much without a problem. The pad is now cut around the edges almost all of the way down to the metal insert though, so I couldn't have taken it much farther without a new pad and still make it flush with the stock. If you want to go farther though, you could buy a new recoil pad.
