Question about LE badge avatar/header
Does this forum have a criteria for clicking on the LE badge icon in the user control panel, for example, active or retired FT LEO vs. folks who are or were, PT Reserve LEO? When I registered a few days ago, I did not click on this option in my profile because in some circles/forums,etc. there is unwritten protocol that this type of thing is for career LEO. I totally respect the career LEO, & LE community, for this type of thing. I served in two different departments as a reserve officer, and reserve deputy, over the span of 6 years, but had to leave it for health reasons. Being a new member here, I want to represent myself respectfully to others. Not trying to get super long winded here, but opinions from the admin.,mods, and LE members, are welcome. Thanks.

I believe we are on the Honor System here.If you are,or not, really should not make a difference in what you post. Most all,if not all, federal agencies have a policy of not to copy your I.D. or badge.I do not know about state or local law enforcement policies. This is like having our Attorney's on this forum give advice, they all say see your attorney for their opinion.Never seek any legal or law enforcement from an open forum.I hope this answers your question.

junglefighter, I am not inquiring by my post, in regards to myself copying an actual badge of mine, for my avatar picture. NO,no,no! That would definitely be a fast-track to a reprimand, or worse, when I was serving. The inquiry was directed towards the emblems/icons on the header by a members username, like in your case the NRA emblem, the U.S. Marines badge, and the LE badge by your username. My inquiry is more or less directed towards protocol, as far as the LE members are concerned, here at the S&W forum.

I think he's referring to the standard LEO icon in the user control panel that goes by your username. Not the actual badge.

As a former career LE officer, my opinion would be to claim the icon. I worked with many reserves on two different agencies, and in fact that's how I began in law enforcement. The reserves took the same radio runs we did, wore the same uniform, and in some cases assumed the same risks. Welcome to the board.

Edited/fixed my previous posts. Thanks for adding that the 'emblems' are header icons, BobC357, and cbvanb.

CBVANB said it best: Took the same calls, took the same risks and most of the time for free. Welcome aboard.

If you wore a badge, carried a gun, and responded to calls, you were a police officer.
I worked with many fine reserve officers; I consider them brother cops.
Post the shield proudly and welcome aboard.

The first years I worked as a police officer the only cover one could expect was the reserve officer riding with you, if you were that lucky. They not only voluntarily placed themselves in harms way but it was done out of dedication not pay and usually after spending eight hours at a regular job. I respect and admire that dedication. Welcome and my thanks for your service.
