Question Deleting posts

I was wondering, how does one delete ads in the guns for sale section. I see so many posts that say "sold" or "close ad" or something like that. Wouldn't that clear up the classifieds to just ads that are active. Wouldn't that save a lot of space, and make it easier to scroll down to see whats for sale. There are, what, over 100 pages of ads? Just wondering.

You can delete your own posts by clicking the "Edit" button, and you will then have that choice (from the forum "FAQ's").

I personally don't care either way, but a lot of people like to see what's sold, and for how much.

You can't delete a whole thread or the original post of a thread.
Only the Moderators & Admin. can do that.

I wouldn't want the ads deleted anyway.
I hate it when the seller edits the whole ad to say "All sold." or something like that.
I'd rather they leave all of the details in the ad.
What was sold, how much did it sell for, etc.
The closed sale ads are a valuable tool to research current values, etc.

The "Sold" in the title of the thread is per the rules - it helps the Mods find closed ads faster without having to open each individual thread.

Default It is valuable info....

If you are interested in buying or selling guns you're better off knowing what is going on in the gun business.

I totally agree and can't understand why a seller would delete the content of the ad and/or the title. It would help other members who are pondering a potential purchase if they could do a quick search to see what a similar item sold for on the forum. I guess that they never bothered to read the rules and see what Lee has requested:

We request that you leave your sale prices in the ad when items are sold. Leaving your sale price will allow folks to search/research what similar items are selling for. We will lock completed ads when you edit the title to show all items SOLD.

When you see that in the beginning of a title, it should tell you that those members are doing things correctly!
Kudos!!!

Hillbilly77 and Thiokol are absolutely correct (re-read their above posts).

We ASK that you leave the description, title and price intact, but it's not mandatory. You're not forced to be helpful.

We TELL YOU how to have ads closed. There's only ONE correct way; "Please" is in the rules because this is a polite board.
Quote:
When your item is no longer available, please add SOLD, TRADED, or WITHDRAWN to the beginning of the title. Edit the title by clicking "Edit" and then clicking "Go Advanced" at bottom right.
As soon as you edit the title, the thread is considered to be closed and will be locked by forum staff. You are then free to immediately start a new ad thread.

Put SOLD or SPF in the title of your thread, NOT in a new post. You can edit your first post to show WHO you sold it to- "SPF to Whoever". This avoids another bump.
Keep replies to the minimum.

Ah, now I understand. Yeah, I can see that keeping the ads does help in finding prices, conditions of items. It just takes me so long to go thru over 300 pages. Thanks for the info.
