Default New bug on the Forum

Last night I had problems where if I clicked on the Lounge link after reading a post, the computer would show the URL for the Lounge, then return to the post!? This is the only site I visit that displays this behaviour.

I am using Firefox, and updating to FF 44 did not fix the issue.

OK, it seems if go anywhere near the page before it has loaded EVERYTHING, I get this effect. I cannot scroll down before all the ads have attempted to load, I cannot begin typing, nothing, without the page reloading.

If this is an attempt to MAKE us look at all the ads before we partake in the forum, then I am done here.

I use Firefox, and have the same issue since yesterday.
It comes and goes.
I seem to have other glitches on other sites, but not exactly like this page return.

I don't have any issues at this moment with Chrome, so I suspect it is a Firefox thing. They usually get right on bugs, so it may be gone tomorrow.

I suspect one of the ads is inserting a script that detects mouse movement or if you switch tabs. As you say, this started yesterday. I do not permit automatic updates and the site worked fine for the last few weeks since I did update FF and Windows. If anything has changed, it has to be the site or one of the ads on it.

Just remembered that I did two Flash Player updates in the last week. Maybe I'll regress and see what happens.

Totally uninstalled Flash Player and the issue is still there.

I disabled HTML 5 in my Firefox setup a few weeks ago. Could that be making something cranky?

I am currently using Internet Explorer which I usually do not use. Early this morning while using Firefox this forum functioned normally for me. Now S&Wforum will not open with Firefox. It starts loading but after about 5 seconds closes before all the ads load. Under newly installed programs it shows that without me knowing Firefox was upgraded or replaced Jan. 26, four days ago. Since the forum worked fine for 3 days after that my guess is that is not the source of the problem.

With Internet Explorer I have to get on the same route I use on library computers. When I try to log in using Internet Explorer I get a page that reads invalid redirect. I go back from that to the log in page which still displays my screen name but has no dots in the security code box. I scroll down then change the back ground color and type size to what I have it set for when logged in and presto, I'm in.

Bearing in mind that my cat is more expert on computers than I, do you have any advise?

Is it possible this site is under some sort of attack?
I have been experiencing some of the same issues you guys are. I posted about this in another thread, but this one seems more relevant.
Aside from slow loading, I am experiencing something similar to a refresh if I move the mouse too soon, and sometimes I don't move it at all while getting the same results.
This can be very frustrating if trying to post when this happens as I lose everything I was trying to post. Sometimes it acts as if the back button was hit when it wasn't.
I too am using the latest version of FF.
This doesn't happen on the other forums I visit.

Here's another possibility. I updated Java on 25 January. Forum seemed OK in the days between then and Friday, though.

I'm using FireFox and seeing this exact same "returning to the previous page" behavior too. On EVERY page I load on this site, but no where else.

The only solution I've found is to let the page load about 90% then click the button to STOP the page loading. If I let it load to 100% it immediately reverts to the previous page every time. I'm not sure what is doing it but it is definitely related to THIS site.

FWIW, a few days before this started I had the exact OPPOSITE problem. After reading a thread or post, I would hit the BACK button (or hit the [backspace] key) and it would start to go back to the previous page and then immediately reload the current page instead. I was having to click the BACK button or hit the [backspace] key three or four times to go back one page.

The site web masters and/or script writers are the only ones who are going to be able to figure this out and fix it HE. I'm 99% certain that it isn't a problem with the member's computers - including yours. It is something running on the site that is doing it.

I had switched to Firefox months ago to get away from other issues IE was causing. Recently, this forum has been driving me crazy with slow loading and then yesterday it would flip back to previous screen and still slow load.
I switched back to IE. Wow what a relief! It's running like it should!

Switch to another browser. Judging by all the posts here, it's Firefox

It is Firefox related - but it is something to do with THIS site. The odd behavior is only here - not on any other site. Some script or utility that is running here has some kind of incompatibility with Fire Fox.

When one site - and only one site - is causing problems for a bunch of people all using the second most popular Windows browser, it isn't very likely that the problem is with the browser.

FWIW, IE won't even load this site for me right now. It gets to the point of the page almost loading completely and closes. I just installed Chrome and it loads fine and doesn't seem to want to jump back a page OR reload the current page when I try to get it to go back a page.

I vowed to never go back to ie due to all the trouble it both allowed and caused.
It's only to do with this site, maybe FF and this site.

Gee,maybe IE isn't that bad of a browser after all.

Like everyone else I switched to Firefox and am now experiencing the same problems...i.e. try to load a page and it keeps going back to previous page.It took me six tries just to get to this thread.

Earlier today (using Firefox) I took a video of what is loading everytime I click on a link in this Forum. That data appears in the lower left part of your monitor and goes by really fast but I was able to slow it down enough to see what it was doing. There were seven ads on the page and it looked like each one was loading from a different source. The last line that loads is usually "www.google-analytics.net" and then the page I was on disappears only to end up back where I was previously.

If it is a problem with Firefox then it is also a problem with the type of advertisements that are popping up here and where they are coming from.

The last thing I'm going to do is load ANOTHER web browser on my computer to deal with these problems when other websites don't give us these problems.

No, IE still blows. It used to be the only permitted browser at work, but it became such a pain on many sites that the management had to give us the option of Chrome. That way any work on the Internet could be completed before the next Ice Age.

Yup, as stated in post #16 above, I just installed Chrome to see if it would have the same (or other) problem(s). Seems to be working fine.

So something about one of the ad scripts or other items that load with the page are probably not FireFox compliant.

Hey guys- you can load as many programs as you got room for on your computer.
So make sure they don't start running when you boot your computer.
So if you have multiple browsers on your computer, like I do, they are not causing a problem when they ain't running!
I have Firefox, Chrome and the new WIN 10 browser on my desktop.
I mostly use my iPad with Chrome, like right now, so I haven't experienced the problems that you guys have.
Based in the posted reports , sounds like they have managed to break into the usually reliable Firefox.

Firefox is the only browser I run. The problems everyone is having also started yesterday for me. This forum is the only place I'm having the issues. Thought it might be something in the history, Clear out all the links to the forum. Didn't solve the problem. Going to work on the cache next. If that works and provided I can get back here I'll report the results. FYI, I have not made any recent changes to any other programs. Also, have access to another puter that has never visited the forum, so I may attempt log on from it. Not being an IT guy, IMO something is amiss with the forum and not Firefox. Very frustrating!! Best regards, hardcase60

UPDATE: Cleared all the Smith&Wesson Forum related cookies. Had to login manually, problem appears to have been minimized but not solved. Hummmmmm

IMO, coincidence. The site seems to be running better for me this morning. Not totally perfect, but better.
I suspect something else has changed.

Posting from a Chrome machine....

I submitted a B***illa report on the problem with Firefox. Turns out I wasn't the first.

A short trawl around the Web points the finger at some kind of bad interaction involving Firefox and at least one of the following:

https://wordpress.org/plugins/ad-injection/
Rocket Loader
Cloudflare

Several other websites are reported to have the same problem: Salon.com
Weatherunderground

Don't know if the bug was fixed yet but here's something you can try...

Open "options" in Firefox...go "advanced", then "general" then click the 3rd box under "accessibility".

You will have to reboot your computer when done.

The first pic shows you what box to click. The second pic pops up at the top of my screen showing Firefox preventing the page from redirecting to another page.

I think I'll leave things like this even if the bug is fixed.

Latest on B***illa says that google ads changed something and screwed Firefox. Apparently, Google ads is calling
history.go(-1);...at some point. That looks like "Go back a page" to me, and I don't code Java.

One webpage manager stated that he had to kill Rocket Loader as well to get his site to behave with FF.

The problem disappeared for me some time Monday and FF began working again for me.
Are you still having the problem?

We don't run Google ads.

Default Firefox issues

After frustrating years with Internet Explorer I switched to Fire Fox with great results.
After one of the more recent updates it began loading very slowly, sometimes taking minutes to load a page, locking up the computer in the meantime. The S&W forum can be particularly slow, but FF does not lock up completely.
I ran Norton and a couple other virus/malware hunters and all said there was no issue.
So, upon advice of a family computer guru I installed Google Chrome. There are too many things about it that I don't like for me to make it my default, but it is MUCH faster loading pages than FF is, and it never locks up my computer.
Another FF note: When trying to view videos, such as youtube, I will get a message saying I need to update Flash Video. I NEVER use their links, but go directly to the mfg's website for the update. No matter how many times I do that, I still get that message in FF, but not in Chrome.

So far as I can tell there is no way to send a complaint to the FF people, so I guess I'll have to endure it until they stop smoking and fix it.

To paraphrase a famous movie line-
Chrome don't need no stinking flash!
It has that capability built in.
Chrome is the Hotrod of Browsers.
Stripped down, no fenders or bumpers, leave the mufflers at home.
Ride loud, fast and hard through the night.
I'm using it right now on my iPad.
I prefer Firefox on my Windows Desktop.

Bugs in Firefox can be reported using B***illa.org.

Possible fix for the Flash issue is to TOTALLY eliminate Flash on your computer using the Adobe removal tool then load from scratch. I am firmly of the opinion that after a while the updates leave spare ends that cause issues. A total clear out is often the only fix.

One caveat, Windows Vista needs a security update to run the Adobe software loader when doing the clean install. You may guess how I know.

Sorry guys, (OT on)
So Chrome works well on an Ipad? Was it a pain to install?

IMO it works extremely well in the iPad.
Better than the built in Apple Safari.
It's lean and mean! Runs fast and hard!
Minimum sideshows and distractions.
What I mean is its transparent. Does its job without interference.
Just goes!
Hard to install? Not really. Just go to the App Store, select it,
Download it.

As others have reported, the problems seem to have been resolved. I'm back on FF and no auto-jumping backwards or forwards. Pages load as they should.

Just came across this article about a recent GPS timing issue. I cannot help but wonder if it had something to do with the recent problems. GPS error caused '12 hours of problems' for companies - BBC News

I wouldn't think so. Otherwise the other websites would have been affected as well?
