I had that problem a year and a half ago. My Avast firewall
stopped it, but I couldn't get access to this forum. My com-
puter guy set up a shortcut to get to the forum. I don't
use the shortcut anymore and don't have the problem.

Yes, off and on for months.
And I get jammed up with a notice that demands to know if I want to keep running scripts on the board.
Here lately, I've also had the script problem on other boards, too. I X out of it and come back later, and the board works okay.
Are they supposed to be running "scripts" here? What does that mean?
I think some of the separate malware alerts are from dragging the cursor over an ad that may have an alert.

Self-employed computer tech. I haven't run an antivirus on my own systems in over 10 years. Everyday I remove you-name-it from systems where the user has fallen for the trap regardless of antivirus - paid or free. If you are going to step in it, it will get on your pants.
The av I install for my customers is BitDefender Free. But only after I have removed all other antivirus products and all marketing software, browser helper objects, and toolbars.
After I clean things up, I tell them that warnings from the Internet are not warnings and if you call the phone numbers from these warnings, you will be speaking to a crook who wants to gain access to your computer, mess it up and take your credit card number to fix it.
I tell them to be wise to it. And also do not call phone numbers you find on the Internet to help you with problems. You will be tricked. Like the saying "There's no crying in baseball", there's the one I made up - "There's no help on the Internet".
There are trip wires and triggers everywhere on the web most often stemming from the marketing objects, ads, and trackers that web developers allow on their web pages. Nothing is for free.
Ads can be the loaded with these triggers and that's probably what you are seeing. Ghostery is showing that this particular page has 7 trackers:
I stopped seeing this popup garbage when I installed Flash Block Plus and Ghostery on my Firefox browser. I didn't install those two addons because of the tripwires - it was to stop the autoplaying Flash ads and videos embedded in news sites that assaults visitors as soon as the page loads.
Blocking trackers and Flash objects allows pages to load faster but it can also disable some features that are desired on certain web sites. Knowing how to whitelist sites is important. Easy to do but you need to know that it is sometimes necessary to do so.

I've had some similar problems, and have just closed the site and tried later until it worked.
Many thanks to tcon for sharing your expertise with us.

*never* download an update to any software that was initiated by a pop-up box you got while browsing a website. Never. If you get a security warning, and something wants to update, don't click on anything, Force quit the browser if you're using a mac, if you're using a PC log off the computer to force quite the browser then log back on, and go directly to whatever trusted website provides any upgrades you think you need. There's a ton of malware out there that starts with a pop-up box that in essence is testing to see how stupid/gullible/uninformed you are.

The ads on the sidebar have become ever more irksome. Consider contributing to make them go away.
BTW, it's Mac, not MAC. I know, picky picky

The only place I seem to have any problem is on Photobucket. When I go to copy and paste a photo to here a new website opens up telling me I need to update something or other. I ignore it. So far so good.

If this is the only site that has the script error, give it time to be corrected/rotated out before you do things to correct it. If it persists, you can try cleaning your browsers with Adwcleaner (from bleepingcomputer, hit green Download Now button). Do a scan, take recommended actions.
If you are running Internet Explorer, it does need to be version 11. Versions 10 and lower are not suitable for today's Internet. XP's highest version is 8, Vista's highest is 9, if running Win7 the version needs to be 11. To check the version, open IE and click Help and About Internet Explorer. Alternatively, click the gear icon on the right and click About Internet Explorer at the bottom.
Another thing to do if you use Internet Explorer is to reset it. Tools or "gear" icon>Internet Options>Advanced tab>Restore Advanced Settings, Apply, Reset, Apply, OK, then restart computer.
With Firefox, you can try updating or reinstalling. To force an update, click Help and About Firefox. It will update and prompt for restart.

YES I only started posting on this forum a few days ago but I also noticed some alerts from my AVG anti virus software. But what's worse, I noticed "slow down" effect that I can fix by doing my AVG sweep and clean on the registry and that means it has dumped malware in that slowed it down and the cleaner took it out. It's unfortunate because this site has good content but there is a lot of garbage being dumped in every time I click and I have to clean it to keep my computer running right.

On my Blackberry Playbook I've been getting a popup that tells me Croooogle has selected me to win a Samsung something or other. It takes over the browser and expects me to click the OK button. Who knows what kind of garbage would happen if I clicked it. I have to close the browser.
Very, very bad.
Most of my other computing devices have countermeasures that prevent that kind of thing. The Blackberry os locked down by the manufacturer and I can't make the necessary changes.
And don't get me started about the autostart video ads ... bad, bad, bad.
