Forum Loads Slower
Maybe this has been addressed and maybe not. I didn't try to do a search to see. So here it is. The pages in this forum used to load almost immediately, if not sooner. Now it's markedly slower. Why? It it hitting a different server or some such. Nothing has changed on my end that I know of. I'm fairly computer literate but not a guru. I tried emailing [email protected] and it came back undeliverable. Ideas???

I have the same problem when using FireFox. For this forum only, I switch to IE and it loads almost normally.

It's pretty slow with IE . . . it's the only forum I frequent that is this way. Seems to want to load a lot of data before it opens up on the page. Frankly, the slowness has caused me to come here less frequent.

I have the same issue
Could it be all the ads that are the left on my screen?
Don't know why but it definitely does slow down moving around the site.

As a contributor to the page I don't have any ads that appear except at the very top of the page. It appears to be more on the order of what Faulkner is saying. Seems as if it has to go through a lot of stuff before the page you want loads. This did not used to be the case. Have not had an answer from any mods.

I went to Firefox on this Forum due to problems with I.E. here.Lately, with the latest update to Firefox,it has been acting up everywhere I use it.I've noticed that Firefox has had more problems here in the evening than the rest of the day.My computer has even locked up several times causing me to do a hard reboot.
It's obvious to me that I.E. is not the problem here or anywhere else.It has worked for me 100% of the time except for on this Forum. If Mozilla doesn't get it's act together soon...Well,You know!

Why has there been no input from any of the moderators concerning this thread. I tried to email one of them and it came back undeliverable.

Well, I suppose that explains that. At least the members seem to have remained the same which is good. Now maybe the "new management" might like to explain the benefits to the members. Slow, in the computer world, most likely never equates to good. Oooops, didn't see your ?.

Several of the other gun forums I belong to have been bought out and have changed management in the last two weeks. Just wondering this forum was one of them.
I have noticed the same sluggishness in one of them, albeit not as bad as here. But for me, the problem started in this forum 2 or 3 months ago.

This could possibly be the case. I certainly don't know and I see no obligation on the prior management to let anyone know if that be the case. Although, it would be nice. The problem seems to be the "waiting to be optimized by xxxxx, etc., etc." which appears in to lower left hand side of the browser window. As it's waiting to be optimized, we're just left waiting. Possibly there's less $$$$ which it takes now to run the site. An explanation would be nice. I believe the last man's name to run it was Lee Jarrett (sp). Always seemed like a nice guy to me.

Try this...
I, too, have noticed the significant increase in loading times, likely due to the "waiting to be optimized....." and loading of the ads. I've learned to open Firefox in the private window mode, and it seems to eliminate the long waiting times, or at least show a significant increase in speed. The downside is you have to sign in each session, if you have your username and password saved, but it's definitely worth it.

I came to this thread with the same complaint. Slooooow loading of every page. I've tried Opera, Chrome, and IE and while it would be hyperbolic to say that I can go get a cup of coffee while a page loads, it does feel that way.

Well, far be it from me to say I'm some kind of computer expert because I'm not. That being said, I don't think the browser that one is using has a whole lot to do with it. What does is all the "being optimized by, etc., etc." that appears in the lower left hand of the screen every time you go to a different page. It's obviously took place when the new forum mods took over. This was news to me anyway. What is a little disappointing is that none of the present moderators will tell us and I've been unable to make contact with any of them.

The performance issues seem to be a periodic recurring thing. I start to get a lot of issues with flash and then the tell tale "return to beginning of thread" instead of where I was upon posting. Occasional random database errors as well. Seems often tied with changes to "live feed advertising" as many times the symptom of auto-play ads begins (not this time though, just painfully slow)!
Pages load extremely slow and often lock up. Nothing changed on my end, behavior consistent on multiple PCs.
As I mentioned, this is a recurring problem. It eventually gets fixed and all is well until the next cycle.
I'm a guest in this house and am not complaining, just confirming that something is not right at the moment

I'm running Google chrome and the forum loads just fine for me. I do keep my software up to date and regularly clear browse history and cookies.

The pages load slow on my mac and it's obviously working hard as the cooling fan comes on a minute or so after I log on, and a few minutes later it starts bogging down.
It's costing the forum hits as it limits the threads I view.

Well it might still be Lee's board but something surely has changed. And, BTW, I tried the support@ email address and it was undeliverable. Still the best place there is if you love S&W, which we all seem to.

I'd spring for a membership to get rid of the ads - if I was sure that was causing the problem.
However, the various membership options only get rid of the ads on the side, not the billboard and I'd be crabby if I paid for a membership and still had issues with slow loading.

I have noticed speed issues as well. I mostly use my Verizon tablet that is connected through my Wifi. It uses chrome as the search engine. Usually it works best in the early am hours

I get sick of "waiting to be optimized" waiting to be optimize. Sometimes it stalls the loading of the page interminably.
Here's my workaround to get things rolling - I click on the "back arrow button" to go back to the previous page, and then click on the "forward arrow button" immediately. Then the page usually reloads quickly.
Your mileage may differ depending on your Windows version. I'm still perfectly happy with XP!

I just want someone to explain the reason for the "waiting to be optimized" routine. What is the benefit to whom? It doesn't appear to be us. Not asking for the moon, just a simple explanation.

It's figuring out which advertisements to hit you with. I'm pretty sure that when I mention something specific in a post, it will re-appear in an advertisement. For example, mention a camera and you will start to see ads for cameras or camera stores.

If you enabled the option, it is probably looking at your browser history. For example if you looked at something gun related on Amazon or another on-line merchant recently, it will show you an ad for the same item, a similar item or a related item. The end result is that if your internet settings allow this, your computer will be busy searching history and sending information back to the sight to optimize the ads.

OK, tried the site using Microsoft's browser and everything loads faster just as it used to. No more of the "optimizing" ridiculousness. So, the problem appears to be a function of Chrome. Now, how to turn it off, if possible. Ideas? Guess I go to looking or remain with Microsoft. At least for this site.

I wouldn't say the issue is Chrome because it happens on my iPad. Loading a page is as slow as molasses in the winter time, going up hill. Used to be this is where I spent most of my browsing time and learned to collect a few Smiths. Now I spend less time since I waste time waiting for a page to up load. Sooooo, I am spending more time accumulating Colts now because I can peruse more material on the pony site compared to this one. Now I have several Colts that I never knew I even wanted. And the other site was in fact acquired by a foreign media company and still no major changes, for now anyway.

Too dang slow for me also using Microsoft Edge in Win 10. Almost hate to post anything because the three back button clicks are a killer waiting for that circle to quit going around.

If you have a smart phone try Tapatalk. I've used it for a while now and it works for me. It makes it easier to keep up with several forums at the same time.

Am I right that those having problems are using computers and not smart phones or tablets? I use my phone more than anything.

Actually on a desktop using Firefox I don't have a problem. I notice it when I use my iPhone 6. It is definitely slower than the other sites I haunt when using it.

As in past cycles of performance issues, the autoplay ads began this evening. I had to close the page before I could get the AD FEEDBACK link as requested in the past. It was a spanish language Whataburger ad.....

Have you checked your connection speed with something like
Speedtest.net by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test
My connection speed had been slow, even for DSL,,,
it turned out that one phone did not have a filter.
We added the filter,,, my speed jumped over 2X and became stable.
Prior to that, sometimes everything would ,,,, j u s t ,,, s l o w ,,, d o w n,,,,
I had decided I did not want to be forced to WIN 10,,,
My SIL stopped by, noticed I had not upgraded, explained that I would like it more,,, and did the install.
The laptop seems night and day faster!!
I do have a VERY computer literate SIL right next door,,,
so I have fewer computer worries than most,,,
There were other updates waiting to be done,,,
he did them all.
This forum now loads lightning fast.

Loading extremely slow for me too. First time is a few years that I've has this problem. Internet download speed is the fastest it's ever been at 122 MBPS.
Using Chrome. But still slow on my Ipad too. Every other place I visit on the net is blazing fast. Go figure.

I'm not one for conspiracy theories but I think the Boss is siphoning power from the Forum servers to run his central air conditioner.
Can't say I blame him...

Here's the culprit, I think, for the ones of us that are suffering from a slowdown on this site. I might be wrong but I think this might be it. Somebody, preferably a real tech saavy computer guro, Google rubiconproject virus and read about it. That's what I did and I think that might be my (our) problem. Remembering that I don't suffer the "waiting to be optimized by rubicon, etc., etc. when using Microsoft's IE, just Chrome. Now, if you do check this out, and agree with me, let me know if you settled on a program to remove this unwanted malware virus. I could be all wet. I have been many times before.
