I started to report a post that had political commentary in it, but was not sure if that was appropriate. It did break the rules, but wasn't spam or inflammatory (at least not only maybe from what the other side of the political spectrum might feel). I know the mods are busy, should I report posts that break the rules, or just go on with my day and let time take care of it?

As active as the forum is, the mods can't possibly read every post. That being said, report the post if you feel that it violates the forum's rules.

I just got dinged for accidentally posting an offer to buy publicly rather than contacting the seller privately as I intended. People do make mistakes and frankly I've never seen another forum as rigid as this one. IMO; People need to be given the benefit of the doubt unless a rule is blatantly violated.

MY 2 cents , If it is not offensive, and a minor over site and not vulgar We all make mistakes! I would just over look it!
Rules are rules though and if a place has rules we should try and follow then fairly close even if we do not agree or think some of them are foolish!
We all have opinions and some opinions are not well liked ,

I'm very happy with the job the moderators do keeping this forum on track. Yup, it's rigid and I've been dinged a couple of times, but there are forums I avoid because they stray from the topic, devolve into personal attacks, insult elected officials, or tolerate obsenity.

We generally don't discuss a members infraction history in public. You brought this up, so I think it's appropriate for me to respond.

Yes, you were issued an infraction for making an extraneous post in an ad (posting something other than a firm commitment to buy at the sellers terms). You and I discussed this at length by PM. You've been dinged for this same violation numerous times in the last year. You received a "reminder" the first time it happened. I quoted the applicable rule in the ding message each time. If you do it again, you'll get dinged again. This is a very busy board with about 1,000 posts per day and I don't appreciate having to address the same issue over and over and over.

Sincerely,
chad

I'll wager you've also never seen another forum as civil and trash-free as this one, too...

After discussion I understand your point and will avoid this in the future. I was distracted while trying to PM reply to a forums members ad and ended up with a public post instead and that's what happened. I understand the volume you have to contend with here.

I got the "ban hammer" once already with the three-day suspension of privileges, and I deserved it, so I figure the mods are keeping this site as civil as they can. Where else can you post pictures of your favorite "tools of mass destruction" without someone whining about how it triggers their "sensibilities" and they're having to bail into a safe place? Keep up the good work, mods. There are plenty of other sites for those who want to vent their spleens about this or that. This ain't the place...this site is informative, I've saved a lot of heartache by NOT purchasing something that seemed a good deal at the time (of course, before I discovered this forum, I did do a lot of "DOH!" mistakes.
