Website app? Threat?
Keep getting notices that this site wants to open an app on my computer.
Explain, please!

I get a similar banner every time I fire up the laptop! It Means; someone wants to put a program on your computer that the operating system hasn't had approved! It could and most likely is a form of spy where, to report to someone that you go to this and other sights. I have enough from Microsoft to start with, so I don't allow it. Unless they are going to pay for the info that I spend 3 hours a day on this sight and 17 hours playing minesweeper; I will keep that my little secret!

I have a free software package (Spybot Search and Destroy) on all of my computers which allegedly immunizes your system against spyware, and it seems to work. Before I had it, I was getting lots of spyware, and some bad ones. Like anything else, programs like Spybot are never 100% effective in preventing Spyware attacks, but along with a good antivirus package (I use the free version of Avast!) it helps. Lots of "Free" software you can download from the web is packed with spyware. That's why they are free. I quit downloading such software some time ago.

Jim, if you don't know what it is, don't download it. Just to many hijack programs out there.

Well, it pops up every minute or two, only on this board.
Anyone else see it?

Clear your cookies...might help. For a while I was getting pop ups about all the child porn I watch on my smart phone and android devices. I don't do child porn on my phone so I figured it was kind of an empty threat. Clearing cookies made it go away.

There are currently over 3100 people on the forum. So it's happening to less than 1%, which is probably average, given the number of different ways people access the forum.
Things to try:
Refresh your browser.
Clear out old cookies.
Up date your browser to the newest version.
Up date your virus software to the newest version.
Check your computer using an anti-malware program.
Keep this in mind: reporting you are having an issue without supplying specifics, like how you are accessing the site and what equipment and software you are using including browser, antivirus program is like calling up your doctor and telling him/her you're sick without giving any of the details.

Haven't seen it on my my iPad.
Tom S pretty well covered the waterfront of corrective actions.

The doctor comment was uncalled for...
Do you work in the Forum office? I believe my question was directed to someone who does...
