Paragraph spacing in posts
Since becoming a contributor (I have no idea what difference that would make!) I have been having an issue with posts. I single-space between paragraphs, but when posted the spacing becomes double and often triple! It looks ridiculous and I have to do an edit to delete the extra spaces to clean things up. I don't see this in anyone else's posts! Any ideas? Here is a single space.
What do you see? It is correct as I type. (edit) But it is now a double-space, both when posted and still here while editing. If I delete the extra space it will be OK after saving!

I've noticed the same thing but don't mind too much.
Just grateful some actually use spaces to break up that block of type.

I suspect it's Firefox. I use the same browser (only with Win 10), and it's started double and even triple spacing some of my posts as well. I also suspect Firefox will fix it - eventually.

Spaces between paragraphs are....
...good no matter what the format. I just want people to be able to read posts without feeling like they reading a novel.

True dat!
I know it's not a forum issue, as I'm experiencing the problem on other forums that use different software that used here. FF has been having its share of issues over the past few releases, but to their credit, they've been pretty responsive about fixing them,

Well I used to go the Firefox route, but now I'm on Chrome.
Single space seems to work ok.

Not that it matters all that much, I started having this double-spacing problem three days ago.
No big deal, really...I just preview the post and delete any extra spaces between paragraphs.
It is a strange problem, though.

When posting system is double or triple spacing?
Anyone else have this? Between paragraphs after the post is entered there are several spaces between paragraphs
Like this I spaced ONE time, "One Ping Only."

OK then, it is a known issue with a unknown solution.

It's not happening with me. Maybe it's the browser or OS?
I'm using Firefox on my old XP desktop.
(PS: Long ago I used to not be able to add multiple spaces between lines (with no characters on it) & started adding a "." on lines I wanted to be extra line spaces. Recently I noticed that's not necessary any more. Weird.

Doesn't happen to me on desktop or iPhone. Firefox browser, Windows 10 on desktop.
I never experience any of the issues described in the Office, except those that all, and I do mean all members experience. I only experience the "can't get to likes" issue for a couple days at the most.
In law enforcement, we used to call that a "clue . . ."

I disagree. I didn't have the problem until Firefox updated itself a few months back. Literally the first time I used it after the update, I started getting double line spacing every time I hit the return key. Nor is it limited to this forum - it happens elsewhere as well. I suspect if one delves far enough into FF's settings something can be changed to effect a cure. I did do a bit of investigation but got sidetracked. The issue goes away if I fire up an old version of IE, but since that browser is no longer supported by MS, I don't feel comfortable using it much.
I would agree that the problem may not be entirely FF's fault. Perhaps it's a result of a plug in or the program's interaction with Norton or Malwarebytes. In either case though, it only happens with FF and therefore has something to do with that browser.

Double space between sentneces is the way I learned so I’m guessing your software defaults to this, but I have not seen this happening w/anything I post.

From deep within the Firefox help section:
Quote:
Could you take a look at this change made in Firefox 60:
(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful or accepting the risk.
(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste newline and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click the editor.use_div_for_default_newlines preference to switch the value from true to false (was false in Firefox 57-59)
Does that have any effect?
This change was made for compatibility with Chrome, but if sites have scripts that handle Firefox and Chrome differently, then those sites will have a broken behavior in Firefox with this change. The following article is for sites that need to adjust to the new behavior:
|
Note: This may not be for the faint of heart or inexperienced computer user, as changing things at this level of a program can stop it from running (hence the warning that pops up). However I made the change and since doing so, the double spacing has stopped.
BEFORE TRYING THIS YOURSELF! I strongly recommend letting me use FF for a few days to see if this change continues to work or if any unforeseen problems pop up. I'll report back in a couple of days with an update.
Addendum: This also resolved the same problem on other forums.
Addendum #2: After more than a day's usage on multiple sites, I can confirm this did fix the issue and didn't create any negative effects.
