"Driver Update"? "S&W Forum wants to download multiple files"?
After visiting a few well known sites (i.e. TV Listings, MSN mail, Facebook, GunBroker) with no problems, I clicked on this forum and an automatic download began named "Driver Update" (?).
I immediately deleted it and got a message saying: "Smith-Wesson forums wants to download multiple files" (?) and asking me to "allow" or "block".
Needless to say, I "blocked".
I know, I know. It must be completely my fault.
The forum is NEVER to blame.
I cleared cache and deleted cookies.
YESTERDAY! (And this happened today.)
I will probably be dinged or suspended for reporting this, but I just wanted to tell you what happened.
THIS particular issue is new to me.

Since you are the only person out of thousands of members who is experiencing this, it should be obvious which end the issue is on.
Cookie cleaning and logging out have nothing to do with this problem. You have picked up malware or a virus from somewhere.
PS: Members never get dinged for reporting problems. Attitudes on the other hand....

How current is your Malware Bytes, and how thorough of a scan did you do? I typically recommend Malware Bytes to anyone using a Windows based system. I've used it for a number of years and had zero problems.
What about virus protection - what program do you use and is it current?

I keep getting the same message. Something tells me some knucklehead(s) doing something malicious.
Hopefully none of our less computer savvy folks are falling victim.

I have had it also. There are repeated attempts to download 'driver update .exe' files . I deleted four today, and have not been very many other places on the Interweb.
Fortunately my computer is set to ask me before running/installing new files.
EDIT: I got curious and looked at the files. I have two each of two different files. Two are "DriverUpdater.exe", and two are "DriverUpdate.exe", both from Speedbit Technology reflecting a UK email address. Maybe I'm supposed to have it, but I didn't ask for it and am going to delete the files.
My Norton antivirus does not indicate a threat.

It just happened to me. I immediately deleted the downloaded file and I'm about to run antivirus software.

driver update
It is a scam. Before I had my computer overhauled I was plagued with the same problem. When I had my computer overhauled, I advised the tech about driver update and he advised me of a scam. I delete all of my cookies and everyday logs daily. It is a pain in the neck the next day I have to log in on my complete log in and password. Once a week, I use Clean Sweep and Malware for additional clearing safeties. At the end, I use a disk clean up. So far so good and hope not to be plagued by the same scam.

I saw this same file (same info) download yesterday from this site. Not when I logged in, but on one specific post I tried to open. Don't recall which, but it had pics. I suspect this is somehow linked to infected pics that trigger the download.
Malware bytes run after revealed zero problems. McAfee detected nothing.

Did you guys manage to get Driver Update Plus on your computer?
You got that one or something similiar.
You need to look at your installed programs and remove the ones you don’t recognize. Not sure? Research it! The unwanted alien bogus program usually have a name you never heard of.
Every time you install a new program, you need to look at your installed programs
Select Sort by Install Date and see if any **** was installed along with the file you choose to install.
Often software providers will ‘gift’ you **** along with the program you requested. This is especially true with ‘free’ programs.
Roll the dice, then pay the Price!
Yes, they are out to get you.
I wasn’t born with this opinion!
I developed it watching folks over the years mess with my computer!
Wouldn’t hurt to change browsers.
Remove the DriverUpdate Plus PUP

Was just coming here to report this...and this thread tells me I am not alone. It's happened to me the last 3 logins. Luckily my PC blocked the attempts to "download multiple files" without permission.

I would not suggest looking at "Installed Programs"
to detect malware. Use and update Avira, Avast, or
Microsoft Defender; if in doubt, use one of the online
scan sites, like Trend Housecall or Norton, to get
a second opinion.
Expecting malware to play nice and list itself as
an installed program is wishful thinking.

I've not been able to figure out which one, but this appears to be triggered by the display of a sidebar advertisement.
I see it pop while I'm sitting idle reading a post. The only thing changing is the displayed ads.

When you have tried malware detection and not gotten a solution,
Then you need to try other solutions.
Unfriendly unwanted software can cause the problems the OP descr8bed.

Still happening early this morning. It is related to an advert being loaded, so it appears to come from the forum itself. It is the ad provider.

I just had it show up on Chrome Version 68.0.3440.106 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Avast scanned the file, and did not show an issue.
I deleted it anyway.

Just had it happen again.
The notification is top left in the screenshot, and the pending file is bottom left.
The origin of this is somehow related to The Forum, as this is the only place I go where it happens and continues to do so.
Google Chrome.

I've had it happen several times, and until I just happened to notice this thread tonight, I didn't realize it happens when I come to this forum. Verrrry interesting!

The pattern I see is only one person reporting this problem is a "Contributor".
Makes a fella wonder if paying back a little for forum usage pays dividends in more ways than one. I know when the ads went away for me, the problems with viewing pics disappeared too!

3 copies of "DriverUpdate.exe" deleted, along with 1 copy of "DriverUpdater.exe". The download automatically occurs without user intervention.
So either you guys agreed to allow this - and you should reconsider - or you need better control over what your advertisers are able to do.

Had a similar experience last week, but nothing today. Maybe it's been fixed.

Yup, seems like it's gone. Reporting the forum as a possible fishing site was becoming an option.

A ridiculous statement.
Why would we allow malware?
Ridiculous. Think, then speak.
It seems to me that a large % of those affected are using Chrome. I don't, and I haven't seen this.
As far as our advertiser goes, click the link in the top nav bar: Advertise With Us and go look at them.
They are one of the big guys. They have state of the art security.

That was what I was wondering. Chrome has (had?) a problem with code injection. The new version is supposed to prevent that. Without doing a forensic analysis on the code that is causing this, I can't tell if code injection is the problem or not but it does seem suspicious.
