Default Recurring renewal?

So I just got the renewal e-mail reminder, and did.

In the e-mail it mentions "if you have selected a recurring subscription", and at the bottom of the forum renewal page one finds the sentence "Validity periods marked * indicate that purchasing this donation is recurring, this means after the period is complete it will automatically be renewed."

I'd like that. However, I failed to discover any way to select that option. I remember the same puzzle last year, when I didn't follow up. But now I want to know whether I'm missing something obvious.

Thanks!

You aren't missing anything. The system doesn't allow for automatic renewal. It may have something to do with PayPal, but I'm not sure.

We quit doing recurring subscriptions in 2012.
Many who had them would get the notice 3 days before the renewal and renew manually. 3 days later, the auto renewal would occur, so they were paying twice. I always issued refunds, but it killed a lot of time and caused lots of confusion.
If I could remove that wording about recurring subscriptions, I would, but it is embedded very deep in the software.

Ah, I see. Thanks!

Might consider simply adding a non-refundable multi-year renewal option, which wouldn’t affect paypal either. Over at the Colt Forum one can choose to buy a renewal for one or three years.

Timely. Made me look.
Saw where I was about to be scrubbed in a week.
Y'all are stuck with me for another year....
