Default BAN COVID-19 POSTS

Lets ban further Wuhan Virus threads and posts. We're treating each other like trash in these discussions, virtue signaling, name calling, really pushing Forum rules... come on folks, we're better than this. Lets enjoy discussing guns. And random object photo threads. I like random object photos.

I've enjoyed some of the discussions...

...Right up until they devolve.

And for some reason, they always seem to devolve.
I really don't know why that is.

Once they reach that point I just stop clicking on them.

I like having the option view them... or not.
My choice.

I still read the COVID-19 threads somewhat, but I don't post to them anymore.
I decided a while back that the level of division and discord and hard feelings that the discussions create isn't worth it.
Nobody is changing anyone's mind, and I think everyone knows it. It has become an argument just for the sake of arguing.
I said I was done with it about two weeks ago, and I am sticking to that.
Though I'm not sure censoring the topic is the thing to do either. We all can read them or not, participate or not - we're free to choose.

I'm not mad at nobody and I fully realize how insignificant our forum rumblings are in the overall scheme of things. Opining passes the time.

When the internet forums first came out 20 years ago I swore I would never get in any of the arguments and name calling that is common in most of the online social networks. For someone wanting to spend their valuable spare time getting mad and trading insults for hours with people they don't even know and will probably never meet in real life is beyond me. I think because we didn't allow it on this forum is the main reason I've been here all these years.

We live in a community plagued by bans and you want to ban something?

If a conservative doesn't want a gun, they don't buy one. If a liberal doesn't want a gun, they try to make it so no one can buy one.

No, I don't agree. If you don't like it, don't click on that thread. I despise the entire concept of a ban on an object or a thought process. It's opposed to everything this country stands for.

Not my dog. A friend sent the picture to me. The dog was licking some goodies off the bottom of the pail, and pulled her head out as soon as she was done.

one of my favorite bad boy pranks is to throw a near empty peanut butter jar to the squirrels. they will shove their head and shoulders in the jar to get the last bite. Cheap entertainment and about all the excitement I can stand.

Hey, re Covid-19, I declared forum victory weeks ago. Having won, I view the ongoing back and forth with amused tolerance.

I don’t understand why we can’t discuss abortion.
Is it because it has nothing to do with firearms, much less S&Ws?
Is it because it is a topic that people have very strong opinions about?
Is it because threads on abortion inevitably degenerate into name calling and vituperation?
Is it because such discussions cause hard feelings among people who should know better?

Oh.

If we look at why some topics such as politics, religion, and abortion are banned on this forum, I imagine it is because these topics are so divisive and polarized that simple discussion of them turns into debate, then heated debate, then outright hostility. Sound familiar?

The Lounge is the page specifically set aside for discussing non-gun topics. And this virus is certainly THE big story of the moment...and probably will be for some time to come.

Respectfully...I see nothing wrong with the discussions on this page, so long as the Forum rules are followed and we maintain a level of decorum.

The really sad thing about all of this is that the Bill of Rights is in tatters and we may be on the brink of a real depression. Remember what things were like back in January? NORMAL.

The virus is a major factor in all our lives right now. And its effect will be with us for a long time to come. I think we should be discussing it.
As said, if you don't like it, don't open the thread.
However, I agree that it does get to be a touchy subject and some folks do go a bit overboard.
So feel free to talk about it, just mind your manners please. Its quite possible to simply agree to disagree and let it go at that.

I used to frequent a different firearm brand forum that allowed political discussion in their version of the Lounge. It never stayed there.

A guy would post a picture of his new gun, and someone he had recently been tussling with over politics would chime in: A GUN THAT ONLY A (insert political party here) WOULD LIKE!!!

I like the fact there are taboo topics here, but I don’t think we need more of them. Scroll on past.

I stopped reading the virus articles weeks ago.

I also do not watch news on TV much anymore because all they talk about is the virus.
I have better things to do than listen to or read the lies.

Just what we needed - another Covid-10 post. There should be a forum rule that we don't need to read these.

I moved this to the Forum OFFICE, which is the correct place for complaints, suggestions or questions about forum operations. We won't be debating board policy in The Lounge. The forum owner sets the rules here and hasn't banned COVID-19 discussion at this point.

Banned topics are not up for debate. You can find a list of them in the RULES, but I'll include them here as a refresher:

Quote:
The following topics are BANNED on this Board:
Abortion
Religion
Racial issues
Gay rights/homosexuality
General LEO bashing
Political Discussion and Comment

Do NOT participate in discussion of banned topics.
This pandemic and the worldwide response is is something unprecedented in our lifetimes. It has impacted our liberties, damaged our economy and is attributed with taking almost 82,000 lives. The death toll worldwide is over 286,000 and climbing. Regardless of your thoughts, these are stressful times and the virus has affected all of us in one way or another.

We allow members to express their opinions within the rules and disagree with each other, provided they remain civil and don't resort to personal insults. This can be rather subjective. We try hard to monitor the discussion, but we can't catch everything. The board receives about 1,000 posts per day and there are only a handful of moderators.

You can help us maintain board standards. If you see something that you feel is inappropriate, please let us know by clicking the report button in the top right of the post. The first available staff member will look into it.

We appreciate your patience, tolerance and understanding in these trying times. My wife and I have been locked down at home for 58 days and the forum community has been a blessing. Please behave the same way you would with neighbors and friends.

Yep. You answered your own question very well if you turn the four questions into statements.

There ya go. I made the comment early on to the Mods that we wouldn't be able to stop discussion of this plague because of the wide reaching effects. We'll allow it because it is unavoidable.
Keep it civil.
