Leather Care for holsters
I just recieved a couple of new leather holsters from ElPaso Saddlery. They are a light russet color, one is lined with suede, the other unlined.
What care would be proper, and what kind of a wax, polish, or preservative should be used on them?
should the unlined one be waxed on the inside?
Thanks.

Renaissance Wax, do a web search, it’s expensive, but a small container lasts for a very long time. Does not change the leather color, will not soften (or harden) it either. Recommended by many holster makers.
Good for your guns as well.

i use basic shoe polish on older worn holsters, in a matching color. you may want to ask el paso what they suggest on a new holster.

Keep in mind
That anything you put on a working holster will wind up on your clothes.

As far as staining your clothes, most oil type finishes will. However there is an oil finish out there that will not, it is called Fiebing's Saddle Oil. I was introduced to Saddle Oil by a holster maker friend, like the name implies horsemen use it on saddles. It will darken the leather but it gives superior protection in the most extreme field conditions. I buy it at my local Farm & Fleet Store, there are several on-line sources that handle horesman supplies that also carry it.

Thanks everybody, for the information.
It sounds like I will have to find a source to buy Renaissance Wax at a reasonable price and try it.
Thanks.
