Default Holster Reccomendation for a Ruger 22/45 (w-optics)

Have a Ruger 22/45 that I just acquired and am looking forward to mounting a red dot optic on it EXCEPT, I can't figure out how I'm going to pack the thing.

I despise nylon holsters and want something either leather or Kydex with retention. Any suggestions?

(bull barrel 5")

Thanks!

I hope you get some good responses. I'd like a good carry rig for this MKII, same barrel length as yours.

I have a Browning Buckmark 5-1/2" with Bushnell Trophy Red Dot that I carry in a fanny pack. Everything stays protected if I have to crawl under a barbwire fence and its fairly fast to draw from if you practice with it. I also like to carry a couple of loaded mags and a small box of cartriges in the outer zippered pocket.

Ruger 22/45's are hard to find holsters for without optics. I had to order one from El Paso Saddlery for mine, their 1927 with thumbreak retention. Nice holster, maybe they can make one for you to fit your pistol with optics.

The 22/45 is on my short list, looks like I'd better start looking for a holster now...

Leather holsters are wonderful to look at. El Paso would be a good place to look, or Mernicle . . . both make purdy holsters.

That being said . . . in the field, I prefer nylon, as moist leather can be rough on a gun's finish and I'm in camo and not trying to impress anyone with how ugly the nylon holster is . . . I just want it to protect my MkII Target model topped with a Holosight. Two uses, two holsters.

Has nothing to do with they way they look (or else I wouldn't have said I would accept Kydex). I like leather because it rides better on the hip (to me anyway). My hunting guns are hunting guns, and I'm not worried about finish protection as much as I am comfort.

I'll look into El Passo. I just can't believe that as popular as these guns are with optics that someone hasn't marketed a holster with a cutout for the scope!
