Default New Leather

I may have finally made a holster worthy of showing off, what do you folks think?

I think it looks great! Kind of retro looking. Very nice job. How long to make one and what kind of leather?

It's made of veg-tanned cowhide, it took about a week to complete due to the number of steps involved, drying time, etc...

That looks good. Is it lined? with what? and how did you sew it? I've been thinking about trying a holster.

It's 2 pieces of leather with the rough sides glued together, that way the inside is as smooth as the outside. It's hand stitched using an awl to make the holes. I've made several holsters and learn something on each one. If you are considering making a holster check out the leatherworker.net forums, there's a lot of good tutorials to help aspiring leatherworkers get started. Once i master holster making, the next step will be to try leather carving. It's a hobby that dovetails nicely with my interest in firearms...

Thanks for the leatherworker.net reference. I've never even thought to look for a leather forum. I tooled some belts, rifle slings, guitar straps and one knife sheath. I enjoy it but finding the time to do it regular has been hard the last couple of years. Keep up the good work.

The grips are very nice as well. I admire all the beautiful grips and holsters members have. I am a bit of a slug however, I love rubber Houge grips and I don't carry (I'm a teacher and I am so worried I would forget and screw up) The goodyears feel like they were made just for me - go figure!
