We used to have a saddle maker here in San Antonio....he was a big time gun dealer and an excellent pistol smith as well...you may have heard of Lebman's. They started as a cowboy outfitter/saddle maker and in their last years transitioned to a western wear store...their demise was in the early 90's. They were really deeply involved in firearms, in fact they were the mail order provider of the infamous Thompsons of the St. Valentine's day massacre. Some of your rigs remind me of leather that came out of their shop and some of Threepersons rigs as well. Please do send more photos. If you ever find some patterns, please, please, please let me copy some of them. I just acquired (like a year ago now...) a Landis Number one (if you know leather, saddles, and harnesses, then you know what that monster is). I would love to attempt to replicate some of what you have shown...most of what I have made so far was all hand cut, hand sewn, and given away with the guns that they were made for...

I was told by a grand old rancher that you could tell a lot about a man by his rig and iron, and you sir, must be quite a character.

again, Great leather, great iron...I bet there is a book worth of stories to accompany it, and can only hope that one of your boys has sense enough to capture them.

If I made it myself for my own use then it is "homemade", however, if I made it to sell then it is "handcrafted". Great looking leather work you have there.

I didn't know a lot about different styles and makers of leather gear and don't study others designs as much as admire them.

When I was a boy, I remember seeing the holsters of my Dad's and his cronies, they would show me their handguns and leather rigs when the
men folk were shootin' or just visiting and havin' man talk behind the barn or out by the corrals.

I cut the patterns and leather as I remember it or just still can see it in my minds eye. I guess the only thing I do different for sure is,
I design to cover the trigger, the guard on them 1911s and the strap between the cocked hammer and the frame.

I remember the old days of the pinned or tied down grip safety and cocked, half cocked or hammer down on a loaded round.
Personally I like the strap run under that cocked hammer...Just in case I'm 'Cocked & Un-locked'.

I'll look for them patterns, it may be a day or two (read a month).

Got to get started on a new-old 1930s style for a Colt SAA that I need to be totin'

keith44special, Dave as I have said before, not only do you have some great guns ,but classy leather as well. I just can't warm up to "plastic pistols and plastic molded holsters. Great looking work. As the post above mentioned, I don't have any use for such rigs myself but that doesn't stop me from admiring them.

To answer your question, those definitely would be "handmade," to me.

Sounds like a plan to me. Even though it is highly technical, I might even do that kind of consultant work fer nuthin'!

I would say that rather than Hand made or Home made, you rigs rate a Custom Made rating.
They are some real dandies.
