George Lawrence Holster Help
I have a George Lawrence belt and holster. The belt is a model 79 (38) and the holster is a model 79 (732). They are both in pristine condition. The 732 designates which pistol the holster was made for. That's the info I need. I'm assuming the 38 on thelt is the cartridge size. I've had it for awhile and have YET to find the answer.

A George Lawrence Model 79 belt is their Gunslinger II model. the Model 79 holster is leather lined to allow free cylinder rotation when cocking (!) and was popular back in the fast draw fad. I could not find a listing for a 732, but a 532 fits a 4" N frame. Do you have a 6.5" N frame to try the fit ? Otherwise I would guess some single action revolver.

Oddly enough, I bought it purely for its' condition. It's a right hander and I'm a lefty. It is definitely for a longer barrel though. I can't stand the "unknown" factor about it. You'd think that George Lawrence info would freely abound but it doesn't. It sure would make it nice -if I sold it- to be able to state which revolver make/model it was made to fit.

There's a bunch of good info here at Vintage Gun Leather. Including brochures & charts on the older manufacturers.
Also it'll give you a good idea on how much these "older" holsters are worth.

TR, what was the price on the two in 1989? What about the 38 on the belt?

George Lawrence Holster Help
The 38 is either the size or the caliber of the loops-if the belt & holster were made together then the cartridge loops should obviously be .44 caliber.
I pulled the 732 information off of a Gun Size Chart from 1/1/89.The 1990 price list quoted below was in use after the George Lawrence Co. sold out to Gould & Goodrich,moved to North Carolina & became the Lawrence Co. The old stamps on belts & holsters said the George Lawrence Co.;
subsequent stamps said the Lawrence Co.Since your rig is stamped with the model number 79 it was almost certainly made by the George Lawrence Co. as the model numbers changed.Retail price for a model 79 (new model # 3579) lined cartridge belt in 1990 was $115.95.The model 79 (3079) holster retailed for $103.95.This isn't necessarily an accurate reflection of current value.The Gunslinger rigs are well made-I have one made for a pre-model 27 S&W in about 1950 that looks like new.

These are definitely from the original George Lawrence. Has Portland, Oregon stamped in it. Any idea what a rig like this in very good-excellent condition is worth? Thanks again for all of the info too.

Well........here is what I could find.
#79 would be their "Plain Gunslinger" rig. 1970 price $27.45 for oil finish, $31.35 for black. Tooling on leather, additional. I could not find a model beginning with a 7.
There is a model 532 holster for 4" N Frame S&Ws.
This info was obtained from the 1970 Shooter's Bible #61.
I hope this information is of benefit.
Best,
Gary
