Yesterday I discovered the art of Pyrography. In this case burning "drawings" into leather. I just realized I had the tool and solicited here for a couple candidates to practice on. G.T. Smith sent a picture and I gave it a shot. Like I told him, it's very dificult capturing the personality of someone I never met, which is crucial to getting it right. I really like the end result as drawings go, but don't know if it looks like him just from going by a photo.Here it is along with a little dessert scene I did to loosen up and get used to it. And on the bottom my first try doodling with the burner when i discovered it. Keep in mind this is burnt leather and no ink. This tool really shades good. but you have to be careful. I'm thinking of drawing stuff on holsters. We'll see.

Well I for one like it!
Would be great to have a holster that matched the grips on a 1911. Or just the outline of the pistol, like a see thru.

I really like the portrait, and I'm a portrait photographer.

I think it would be cool to have a portrait of my favorite dog put on the holster of my favorite 44.

Nice...good job! Pyrography is a great hobby....you can zone into it and clear your thoughts. Here are some of my pieces, but they are pictures OF pictures, so the quality is poor. The bar stool and Oriental Garden were sold at a local folk art studio along with some others that I don't have pictures of anymore, and the other ones (plus many, many more) are sealed up in storage, so these are the only ones I have to show right now. The jester blank ended up being a small chest/box top. Never really got into portraits, although I do have a few of them put up. I prefer scenery/landscapes or structural scenes.

These are fantastic. I especially like the third one down with Japanese motif because of the perspective of going from the forground to the mountain. To me empty space is good because it makes what Is drawn stand out more. Like a gun that's engraved 75% as opposed to 100% coverage. Sometimes less really is more. The bar stool idea is very interesting. Thanks for showing them.

I know what you mean. I had a friend one time that thinks like you do and he died tryin' to eat some mountain oysters
