Just Won This Classic Ojala Fast Draw Holster On G.B.!!
The other day I googled "Left handed Arvo Ojala holster" to see what would pop up and I found this on Gun Broker. I just couldn't believe it. But I got it for $16 and plan to clean it up and make a matching belt for it. They still make them but they cost $200 without the belt and, unlike this older style, they dip down in front for a quicker draw. I'll pattern the belt after my own Ojala rig I already own. The seller doesn't know if it's for a .22 or .45. Regardless I'm tickled to have it. Here it is and also a pic of Little Joe Cartwright's original Ojala rig which is identical. I can't wait for it to get here.

Back when the TV westerns and the quick draw craze hit in the late 50's and very early 60's I think he made most of the quick draw outfits that were sold. Jeff

$16.00 for a genuine Arvo Ojala holster! Looks like 2011 may be your lucky year.

Here's Hoss's rig...
The one used by anti-gun Lorne Greene...
And my Ojala rig I ordered from him personally after watching Silverado in '85. Also, the mini Ojala rig I made for my lefty son when he was about six in 1988-89...

Nice grab.
Your son's rig is pretty spiffy. What I wouldn't have give for one like that when I was his age and size....

To make it look right I made the stitching tighter so there's an extra stitch between each regular one to make it look scale. I was pretty jazzed when I saw he was lefthanded to.

Congrats Wyatt! Great score!
I really like the work you did on the other two rigs as well.

Score!!! Make sure you to show us the finished product Wyatt. I found RH one at a local gun show a month or so for 10 bucks and thought I had scored. then my fast draw buddy there in Sacremento told me it had been cut oh well

I saw that one! It's black and looks like the fast draw version with the 25 degree cant. I noticed whoever cut id didn't stitch the bottom. I would have bought that in a second but it's a shame it was shortened. Gary also has a great Anderson double rig I wrote him about the other day.

I found this great photo of Adams Colt conversion from the show by it's current owner and pics of the other guys guns, too. That's Adam in the guy's avatar. He had a two tone rig like Ben Cartwright at first but later swithed to a black plain Ojala rig.

LOL it is funny you had seen it already. Gary has had some of the coolest rigs I have ever seen, although I am sure you could match his anytime.

He also appeared as an actor in quite a few movies and TV shows, and was a technical advisor on many movies. His showbiz history can be seen at

Thanks Vulcanic one. Out here we have what i think is the biggest flea market in California. For 21 years I've gone there with one primary thought on my mind. Finding a givaway Ojala rig. There's gotta be a lot out there. Then after that I look for any classic holsters, grips, leather and tools, gun oriented parts, and then books and other stuff in that order. So finding this was very special even though to non gun guys it's just a beat up *** chunk of leather. I found a $5 pair of Python grips, sanded and reshaped them to a perfect Roper style, and now find out they would be worth almost $200 if I left them alone!

Beautiful find there -
I've seen a couple of the Ojala rigs on vintage leather - 'course they're a bit more pricey than what you paid for your holster.
I believe Alphonso of Alphonso's of Hollywood was a leather worker for Arvo Ojala prior to opening his own gunleather shop. I purchased this "James Arness" rig sometime in 1973 for a 7 1/2" SuperBlackhawk.
Unfortunately, I no longer have the gun or waist size for this rig.

I would have thought that was an Ojala rig but Alphonso's signature double stitching is a dead givaway. That's a very nice outfit.
